Michelle Obama, like many first ladies in modern times, took on a cause to pass the time while her husband is in office. Childhood Obesity became her great cause. Apparently, getting kids to eat less food is a laudable goal in America today, as our nation is so wealthy.
Scientists have investigated the trajectory of childhood obesity in America since her program began. The results are in: failure!
Obama’s plan took the form of the Let’s Move program, taking action to change eating habits and increase physical activity. One center of action of this program was in fact in schools, pushing them to alter their meal programs and take other steps to effect change.
As a program with a defined goal, the great thing is we can actually check to see if it’s working. A team in North Carolina did just that, and the results leave no room to debate: Let’s Move has failed.
Every form of obesity is up from 2008 to 2014, with the trend in recent years either steady or increasing. This is science, not opinion. Obama’s ideas are not working, as the study itself says as its conclusions:
There is no evidence of a decline in obesity prevalence in any age group, despite substantial clinical and policy efforts targeting the issue.
And yet, despite proof of failure, there’s no evidence Obama and the Democrats are admitting that their ideas are wrong, or that government intervention could possibly have been a bad idea.
