Marco Rubio’s wife gets attacked in the press for her speeding tickets. Ted Cruz’s wife gets made fun of for her talk of prayer. Bill Clinton is ignored as much as possible, thanks to his scandals and his record now being politically incorrect. Donald Trump’s wife? She gets an MSNBC interview and fawning coverage in the rest of the mainstream press.
It’s true: CNN, MSNBC, and even Salon are covering Melania Trump, and only her, favorably.
Trump is the candidate that the networks will give ridiculous amounts of free airtime just to air his stump speeches, in addition to giving him a clear majority of news coverage. This kind of editorial decision-making is not done by accident. As we learned back when the Drudge Report took off, the mainstream press outlets don’t just pick stories according to what would get attention, or what is important. Raw partisan bias comes into play.
So ask yourself this: Are stories about other Republican candidates, and favorable coverage of their wives, being spiked/never assigned, in favor of stories about Donald and Melania Trump, because all these outlets are suddenly pro-conservative and pro-Republican, or because they’re trying to promote Trump to sabotage the GOP and conservatism?
Ask yourself why Ivana and Marla aren’t getting the coverage that the ex-wives of any other Republican would get.
Donald Trump would represent the end of the GOP as a conservative vehicle, in the way Ronald Reagan began the party as such. They know it. GOP voters need to recognize it, and the other GOP candidates must act accordingly to save the movement, the party, and the country from disaster.
