What if I told you there was a ‘Republican’ who is not only pro-abortion (“Basically a liar” sinking pro-life efforts), but voted for the debt ceiling increase, for Ex-Im, against the sequester, and against the RSC alternative budget? This is someone who’s bad on most every issue we care about.
That Republican is [mc_name name=’Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’E000291′ ], and Club for Growth has endorsed Jim Duncan against her in the Republican primary for the 2nd district of North Carolina.
Ellmers represents probably the greatest betrayal of the TEA party movement in Washington today. Club for Growth’s David McIntosh has Ellmers dead to rights when he says:
“Jim Duncan will have to defeat Washington insider [mc_name name=’Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’E000291′ ]. She campaigned as a Tea Party candidate, but sided with [mc_name name=’Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’P000197′ ] in reauthorizing the corrupt Export-Import Bank, and in supporting the wasteful trillion-dollar spending bills of 2014 and 2015. During her time in Washington, Ellmers has taken pride in following the lead of Speaker Boehner and the Republican leaders in Congress. She has an abysmal lifetime 61% voting record from the Club for Growth, having voted against conservative spending plans, and for budgets that break the spending caps. Ellmers’ constituents deserve better, and the Club for Growth PAC is proud to endorse Jim Duncan as the true economic conservative in this race.”
She’s terrible and she deserves to be primaried. When Club for Growth is endorsing Jim Duncan to replace her, I think we all should give him a good look and serious consideration for support.
Now is the time when we need to gather our candidates if we want to primary bad Republicans. I’m encouraged by this challenge of [mc_name name=’Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’E000291′ ] and I hope we get more like Jim Duncan.
