FBI head associates Hillary Clinton server scandal with... a terrorist attack.

OK, a little background here. FBI Director James Comey was in Buffalo yesterday visiting a field office. Naturally, he was asked some questions by local media (in this case, WIVB 4). Among the questions was one on whether there was any real urgency to finish the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s illegal* use of a private server before the Democratic convention. Here is Director Comey’s response, which is a bit… awkward in its analogies.

“No, and the only reason I hesitate is in any investigation of intense public interest, whether it involves a public figure. Involves some horrific crime. San Bernardino is a great example. We feel a great sense of urgency to do it well and to do it promptly,” Comey explained. “I wouldn’t say the concerns are any different in any of the high profile cases. And the reason is good people want to know. There’s intense interest in investigations like that. Like a San Bernardino.”

Leaving aside for the moment the idea that having the server thing hang over the head of the likely Democratic nominee until the actual general election is actually… kind of pleasant news for both me and Bernie Sanders: I cannot imagine that Hillary Clinton is happy to see this comparison.  I mean, her entire argument here is that the server thing is nothing, a made-up issue, simple partisan posturing.  Having the head of the FBI (inadvertently, I suspect) compare it to the San Bernardino terrorist attack – twice**  – kind of steps on that argument.  And then jumps on it.  Possibly there was even some scraping of the heels involved.

Anyway!  On to Wisconsin, Democrats! Which primary Bernie Sanders is apparently going to win, despite what seems to be his best efforts, these days. Because we’re not the only ones having a white-knuckle primary right now…

**Just in case you didn’t hear it the first time, I guess.  Which is a decent argument against me using the word ‘inadvertently,’ possibly.
