AFSCME thinks that the UNCF should think that $60K > $25M.

Oh, dear.

A powerful government workers’ union will end its support for the United Negro College Fund after the group accepted $25 million from the conservative powerhouse Koch brothers and the college fund’s president appeared at a Koch event.

In a letter made public Thursday, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees said it will no longer partner with or raise funds for the fund, known for its iconic motto, “A mind is a terrible thing to waste.”

Oh, dear.  How will the UNCF ever survive without AFSCME’s support?

AFSCME gave between $50,000 and $60,000 annually to the UNCF for its AFSCME/UNCF Union Scholar Program, which has served 94 students since 2003.

…Ah. Guess that the UNCF might be able to soldier through without that particular crust of largess thrown its way, then.  Particularly since AFSCME doesn’t quite have the necessary gall to fully serve its Democratic Establishment masters by actually ending its minority scholarship program: they’re just taking the name ‘UNCF’ out of all the boilerplate.  Alas – and contra Glenn Reynolds – I don’t think that this move is particularly indicative of lean days for AFSCME, though.  While the days are getting leaner, the group’s leadership can coast for a very long time on the dues of its more productive members…

PS: For the record: there is nothing unusual about supporting Voter ID laws. Everybody supports Voter ID. And if Democrats wanted to keep VRA-compliant preclearance so badly then they shouldn’t have ignored the Supreme Court’s heavy-handed hints and updated the list of locales that potentially need them.  Of course, if they did that then the new list of places requiring extra scrutiny would undoubtedly include a heck of a lot of urban Democratic strongholds…
