Egypt is neither an ally nor an enemy of the United States, President Barack Obama said Wednesday in the wake of a violent protest at the US embassy in Cairo.
“I don’t think that we would consider them an ally, but we don’t consider them an enemy,” Obama said in excerpts of an interview with Telemundo aired by MSNBC.
Sunlen Miller and Kirit Radia report: President Obama today reiterated that Egypt is an ally of the United States and that the he’s “always said” to President Hosni Mubarak that reform, both politically and economically, is essential for Egypt.
“Egypt’s been an ally of ours on a lot of critical issues,” Obama said from the White House this afternoon, “President Mubarak has been very helpful on a range of tough issues in the Middle East. But I’ve always said to him that making sure that they are moving forward on reform — political reform, economic reform — is absolutely critical to the long-term well being of Egypt.”
So, what changed? Well, in 2011 Egypt was run by the Mubarak regime; since then the government was overthrown, and replaced by one that was swiftly dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood. So, by a simple process of logic it can be seen that Obama here is showing his disapproval of the Muslim Brotherhood…
- “The United States is nearing an agreement with Egypt’s new government to eliminate a significant portion of the $3.2 billion owed by the economically struggling nation, U.S. officials said Monday. The discussions are the first major negotiation between the Obama administration and Egypt’s new democratically elected leaders.’
- “President Barack Obama has invited Egypt’s newly elected Islamist president Mohamed Morsi to the US, it emerged on Sunday as Washington pledged a “new partnership” with the Arab nation.”
- “Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood has a long history of deception, promotion of Sharia law, anti-Semitism, and anti-Western values. Yet this does not seem to concern the Obama White House. Recently the Obama Administration wholeheartedly welcomed a delegation from the Muslim Brotherhood to Washington. It even suspended normal screening processes for them, including one member who, according to the Investigative Project on Terrorism, was “implicated—though not charged—in a U.S. child pornography investigation.””
Oh.
Well.
Sorry, I’ve got nothing. There’s no realistic way to reconcile those two statements, sorry – except for the standard “Barack Obama is a blithering idiot” argument, of course. Which, admittedly, gained a lot of credibility yesterday when it came out that Barack Obama equated his campaign staff to overseas diplomatic and military personnel – a statement that formally confirms for the record that Barack Obama is the President with the worst tin ear since Ulysses S Grant.
