DGA Martin 'Whitebread' O'Malley (D, MD) speaks on Republican racism!

So.  We got Maryland Governor and DGA head Martin O’Malley out there SNEERING about us awful, awful racist Republicans (for the full effect, assume that I’m fluttering my hands like I’ve got the St. Vitus’ dance):

Using Governor Rick Perry (formerly) of the RGA for that, too. You see, good old Martin here really, really respects the heck out of Rick, you understand; despite the fact that he’s voluntarily a member of a racist and prejudiced group like the GOP.  Isn’t that just… well, Caucasian… of Ol’ Whitebread O’Malley?

No, my sneer’s deliberate, too.  And much more justified.  Consider this:

  • The progressive, inclusive DGA currently being run by Whitebread O’Malley has precisely one racial minority among its members: MA governor Deval Patrick.  Apparently Democrats don’t like voting for ethnic minorities – at least, not statewide.
  • The racist, regressive RGA ran by Rick Perry?  Four: Nikki Haley of South Carolina, Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Susana Martinez of New Mexico, and Brian Sandoval of Nevada.  Odd how that happened, no?  – And so enthusiastically, too.

But surely that isn’t Ol’ Whitebread’s fault, surely?  He inherited the position, after all.  Sure… but then there’s this little piece of Marylander history:

In the wake of a report earlier this month which indicated Baltimore locks up a higher percentage of its population than any major metropolitan area in the nation, the city agreed last week to pay $870,000 to the victims of what some call illegal arrests.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the American Civil Liberties Union filed a joint lawsuit in 2006 on behalf of 14 people whose arrests were symbolic of thousands of so-called illegal arrests, which took place over the course of several years. The settlement was approved by the Baltimore City Board of Estimates Wednesday.

“Due to the arrogance of a mayor and his administration, hundreds – if not thousands – of Baltimore City men were unconstitutionally arrested, not charged with anything, but left in Central Booking with an arrest record,” said Marvin “Doc” Cheatham, president of the Baltimore branch of the NAACP.

And who was it that was that arrogant mayor, who may have been even operating from a position of thinly-veiled racism?  Why, it was former Baltimore Mayor Martin Whitebread O’Malley!  His quote-unquote ‘zero-tolerance policy’ ended up costing the city eight hundred and fifty grand… long after O’Malley quit that job to be Governor of Maryland, and not incidentally presume to lecture the Republican party about how racist we are.  Really, this amount of chutzpah is almost admirable…

Chutzpah.  It’s a Yiddish word, Governor Whitebread.  Yiddish.  You know: the traditional language of the ethnic subgroup that your colleague in the House just accused of voting Republican in order to protect their wealth?
