Poor California Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom.
Despite the disaster that Newsom has wrought in the no-longer-Golden State throughout his nearly six years in office, the ever-pompous, perfectly coiffed dude wants to be president so bad he can probably taste it.
Toss in the obvious reality that President Donald Trump lives rent-free in Newsom's head 24/7, and there's no telling what the smug governor is going to do next.
In one of his most Newsom-esque moves yet, Gavin (read: "Hair Gel") on Tuesday used the global stage of the 2025 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Brazil to tout a new "climate" partnership with Nigeria, of all countries.
As most of the world knows — including countries and political parties that refuse to acknowledge it — the systematic targeting (slaughter) of Nigerian Christians has reached shocking levels. Nigeria has seen more Christians killed for their faith than any other country; between 2019 and 2023, nearly 17,000 Christians were murdered in targeted attacks.
I won't write what I really think about Newsom and his "deal," given the ongoing atrocities in the West African country, but I will suggest the California Democrat cares more about "looking presidential" than about probably anything else on the planet as he sets his sights on a run for the White House in 2028.
Newsom's deal comes against the backdrop of the Trump administration's reinstating Nigeria’s designation in October as a Country of Particular Concern, reviving the policy adopted by Trump during his first term in office, which the Biden administration later rescinded.

In a post to X on Wednesday, Newsom — trying to look all presidential and stuff — boasted about the agreement while patting himself on the back:
California just teamed up with Nigeria on a new climate partnership at #COP30 — focused on cleaner transportation, climate adaptation, and cutting pollution.
Real action, global collaboration!
Uh-huh, Gavin. Now do the Pacific Palisades Fire.

Here's more:
Civil rights organizations and international Christian advocacy groups have repeatedly accused the Nigerian government of failing to protect Christians and even providing a safe haven for as many as 22 Islamic terror organizations. Researchers traced a worsening trend of violence, abductions of clergy, and mass displacements, warning that government denial constitutes complicity given the overwhelming evidence that the crisis meets the legal threshold for genocide under Article II of the UN Genocide Convention.
Trump cited atrocious numbers—thousands of Nigerian Christians killed, churches destroyed—and called for urgent congressional attention and possible sanctions, making it clear that the U.S. could not simply stand by as these atrocities unfolded. Trump’s statement and ensuing endorsements from congressional leaders signaled a renewed willingness to apply diplomatic and economic pressure in defense of persecuted Christians.
So there you have it.
Newsom promotes California’s "collaborative model as a global blueprint for tackling climate change," while President Trump and his congressional allies emphasize religious freedom as the cornerstone of American foreign policy, spotlighting Nigeria’s horrific atrocities against its own people — who happen to believe in the "wrong religion." Go figure.
