'Criminal Recidivism': 75-Year-Old Grandma Arrested for Offering to Speak to Women Considering Abortion

What follows is disgusting.

A 75-year-old Scottish grandmother was arrested and charged last week for silently offering to speak to women considering an abortion. She was silently holding a sign that read "Coercion is a crime, here to talk, only if you want" — within 200 meters of Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

Oh, the humanity!

It was the second time this year that pensioner Rose Docherty was arrested and charged with "intimidation" and the ‘influencing" of anyone trying to access abortion services.

You may remember the case of Isabel Vaughan-Spruce, who had been praying and offering support to women outside abortion clinics for 20 years. After being cleared of wrongdoing on two previous occasions, she was investigated again for the same "crime" in August 2024.

You see, Rose Docherty and Isabel Vaughan-Spruce are what they call "criminal recidivists" in the United Kingdom.

Translation: Free speech literally doesn't have a prayer in the UK.

As reported by Daily Mail, video of Ms. Docherty’s latest arrest shows four police officers questioning her, searching her, and then escorting her into the back of a van.

The grandmother of two, who has undergone two hip replacements, claimed she was left without a chair in her cell for two hours. She was later charged and released on bail under conditions barring her not only from a "buffer zone" but also from a wider surrounding area.

Memo to my Democrat friends:

Try to convince me that leftists in America — including a majority of your party — aren't envious of the crackdown on free speech in the UK. Never mind — you can't.

The UK's Abortion Services (Safe Access Zones) Act was adopted in September 2024. The law's sponsor, Scottish Green MSP Gillian Mackay, denounced protests of abortions as “totally unacceptable abuse and obstruction” outside hospitals, making it a crime to behave in ways that could influence the decisions of women and staff to access abortions within "buffer zones."

In other words, this is yet another example of making free speech an "unacceptable abuse" — that is, if it conflicts with the government's policies and narratives. Sound familiar?

Ms. Docherty told the media:

I should not be treated as a criminal for inviting people to chat with me—lending a listening ear. Conversation is not forbidden on the streets of Glasgow, and yet this is the second time I have been arrested for doing just that.

One wonders — this one, anyway — if pro-abortion activists were to violate a UK "buffer zone," would they be arrested, too? Dunno — but I doubt it.

Here's more, via The Catholic Herald:

A Police Scotland spokesperson said at the time: “Officers attended and a 75-year-old woman was arrested and charged in connection with a breach of the Safe Access Zone legislation.”

Following her arrest, Rose received a letter from the Procurator Fiscal requiring her to accept that her actions were unlawful.

The letter read: “…the evidence is sufficient in law to justify my bringing you before the Court. I have decided, however, in all the circumstances of the present case, not to bring proceedings.

“You should note that if a similar report against you is submitted to me in future, and there is sufficient evidence in law to justify my bringing you before the Court, you may be prosecuted.

“If you accept this warning or are deemed to have accepted it, I shall not prosecute you for the above offenses.”

For the record, Rose refused to accept the warning. God bless her for doing so.

UK Prime Minister Absurdly Brags About 'Free Speech' in Country That Arrests Citizens Over X Posts

As political commentator Jonathan Turley observed, "the United Kingdom shows how limiting speech can create an insatiable appetite for greater and greater speech controls," adding:

The idea of cracking down on “toxic ideologies” is of course nothing new in countries like China and Iran. However, the anti-free speech movement in Europe has succeeded in destroying the foundations for free speech in the West. The European Union is now one of the most hostile, anti-free speech organizations in the world.

Precisely. And never forget:

Leftists — including a majority of today's Democrat Party — are like spoiled children. Give them an inch, and they'll do their damnedest to take a mile — regardless of how long it takes them to take that mile. They're insatiable. The more they get, the more they want.

What's that old saying? "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time."

Yeah, that. Be vigilant, gang — it's way past our time to resist.
