Speaker Johnson, Top Republicans Call for Biden's Resignation Following Release of Damning Hur Report

Joe Biden and the Democrat Party are smack dab in the middle of a political maelstrom the likes of which hasn't been seen in American politics since Richard Nixon was embroiled in the Watergate scandal more than 50 years ago — and one gets the sense that the worst is yet to come for the embattled president.

Following the Thursday release of Special Counsel Robert Hur's report on Biden's handling of classified material — in which Hur stated that even though Biden “willfully retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency when he was a private citizen,” prosecutors concluded that “no criminal charges are warranted in this matter" — House Speaker Mike Johnson and other top Republicans blistered Biden, with some calling for his resignation.

HOT TAKES: Biden's White House Address Was an Unmitigated Disaster

Speaker Johnson (R-La.), House Majority Leader Tom Emmer (R-Minn.), House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), and Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) said in a joint statement Thursday (emphasis, mine):

The Special Counsel’s finding that President Biden ‘willfully retained and disclosed classified materials’ and engaged in practices that ‘present serious risks to national security’ is deeply disturbing. Not only does it demonstrate the President’s recklessness, but exposes a two-tiered system of justice that is indicting one President with politically motivated charges while carrying water for another amid similar allegations.”

Among the most disturbing parts of this report is the Special Counsel’s justification for not recommending charges: namely that the President’s memory had such ‘significant limitations’ that he could not convince a jury that the President held a ‘mental state of willfulness’ that a serious felony requires. A man too incapable of being held accountable for mishandling classified information is certainly unfit for the Oval Office.

The last line is inescapable. If Joe Biden's too cognitively impaired to be prosecuted, he's too cognitively impaired to be president. End of story — or should be.

Following Biden's disastrous Thursday night press conference, Johnson tweeted:

The President’s press conference this evening further confirmed on live television what the Special Counsel report outlined. He is not fit to be President.

Was there any question?

Not only was Biden's anger over the top — but confusing Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was a pathetic disaster that only furthered the case that the 81-year-old president is unfit for office.

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) noted the irony of Biden's press conference performance.

Rushing an unwell leader in front of national TV only to ironically prove he is unwell feels like the opening scene of a B movie thriller. But if we wake up tomorrow and everyone acts like this didn’t happen, it’s definitely a dystopian novel.

Lo and behold, I saw several Democrat lawmakers this morning attempt to do just what Massie predicted.

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) said: "The safety of our country is at stake." Chillingly, Lee's observation was not hyperbolic.

Finally, Rep. Michael McCaul said what all patriotic Americans should believe.

If he’s unfit to be prosecuted, he’s unfit to be President of the United States.

Again, that should be the end of the story.

The Democrat Party was unavailable for comment — Democrats were too busy spinning themselves into irrational pretzels.

The Bottom Line

The Watergate scandal ultimately led to Richard Nixon's resignation. While I don't expect Biden to follow suit — he lacks both the courage and sense of duty — the machinations within the terrified Democrat Party moving forward will be a sight to behold.

Meanwhile, Joe Biden remains clueless.
