In an awesome “shot and chaser” moment on Wednesday, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) blasted Donald Trump for claiming executive privilege in an attempt to block the release of White House documents archived from his presidency, prompting House Republican colleague — though hardly a friend — Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA) to fire back at Cheney. I’d say the claws came out but that would be sexist.

As I reported on Monday, Trump filed a lawsuit to block the release of documents from his administration to Nancy Pelosi’s select congressional committee investigating the Jan. 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol. The lawsuit claims in part that Trump retains the right to executive privilege as a former president.

Cheney was having none of Trump’s claim, saying the former president’s lawsuit suggests he was “personally involved” in the planning and the execution of the Capitol “riot.”

“Mr. Bannon’s and Mr. Trump’s privilege arguments do however appear to reveal one thing. They suggest that President Trump was personally involved in the planning and execution of January 6th. And this committee will get to the bottom of that.”

Marjorie Taylor Greene being Majorie Taylor Greene, the Georgia congresswoman fired back at Cheney with both barrels. After first blasting Speaker Nancy Pelosi over a proposed $200 million allotment for improvements to a national park in Pelosi’s San Francisco district, Green took several shots at Cheney, in response to a reporter’s question about Cheney’s accusations against Trump:

“Oh, she’s just jealous and she hates Trump. Who cares? Nobody cares about Liz Cheney. I mean, I think that’s the biggest story. No cares about Liz Cheney or their stupid committee.”

Greene then walked away, mumbling under her breath.

OK, then. ‘Nuff said.

As to Trump’s lawsuit, here’s a segment from my Wednesday report.

Trump had previously requested that the Biden administration assert executive privilege over the documents. (The chances of that happening were somewhere between zero and minus-ten.)

As even CNN noted, similar requests from past presidents are traditionally honored by their successors, but Biden being Biden, he denied Trump’s request, citing “special circumstances.” (Perhaps when Biden becomes a former president he’ll regret his refusal of Trump’s request. Just a thought.)

Trump’s lawsuit also asserts that the Presidential Records Act is unconstitutional if it is “read so broadly as to allow an incumbent President unfettered discretion to waive the previous President’s executive privilege, mere months following an administration change.”

And, as transcribed by CNN, the lawsuit claims Biden’s refusal to protect some of the documents was “a political ploy to accommodate his partisan allies.”

In a separate article on Monday, I reported on an excellent recent column by investigative journalist Glenn Greenwald in which he argued that the real intent of Pelosi’s Jan. 6 kangaroo court is unbridled power — in place of constitutionality, legality, and morality.

In order to gain that power, argued Greenwald, Democrat exploitation of Jan. 6 continues, with the intent of continuing to instill fear and anger in the majority of Americans — it is not working — and a continuing perceived threat from Trump and his fellow “insurrectionists” — that’s not working, either.

Meanwhile, I’d do pay-per-view to watch a knock-down-drag-out fight between Liz Cheney and Marjorie Taylor in the Capitol cafeteria. Claws and all. No, really.
