Babylon Bee: Lightfoot Terrified When Thomas Sowell Shows up for 'Black People Only' Interview

As we reported on Wednesday, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot caused a “stir” after her spokesperson announced that henceforth, the embattled mayor will grant interviews to “black and brown people” only — and apparently refuse to speak with white journalists.

Shocked? Me neither.

Our friends at The Babylon Bee — the premiere satire site in the known universe — on Friday “reported” on an uncomfortable unintended consequence for the mayor: noted economist, social theorist, and senior fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, Thomas Sowell showed up to take Lightfoot up on her “black or brown people only” offer.

It goes without saying that Thomas SowellShelby Steele, et al., or any black conservative — was not Lightfoot’s idea of a “black or brown person” only when her “only journalists of color need apply” edict was issued. Not even close.

As The Bee “reported,” the sheer terror that immediately engulfed Lightfoot when she first saw Thomas Sowell was quite the sight.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was seen running for her life this afternoon. Observers said that Lightfoot exploded into a frantic sprint after she saw Thomas Sowell approaching to interview her.

[After] Sowell crashed through a nearby wall in a fashion reminiscent of the Kool-Aid Man. Lightfoot, living up to her name, went into a mad dash and has not been seen since.

According to The Bee, “people at the scene said Sowell brushed the drywall dust off of his corduroy jacket and said:

“It is hard to imagine a more stupid or more dangerous way of making decisions than by putting those decisions in the hands of people who pay no price for being wrong.”

Sowell shrugged and most of the people present nodded in agreement. “Well, guess I’ll go,” he said. He then burst through another unbroken portion of the wall and left.

Lightfoot was last seen on a traffic camera “charging down Canal Street like a Japanese man in a Godzilla film,” according to The Bee.

Satire aside, Lori Lightfoot is a quintessential example of the hypocrisy of the left. As my colleague Bonchie observed in the previously mentioned RedState report:

“Try to imagine what would happen if a Republican announced that they were only going to take interviews from people who are white? They’d be skewered and out of office within 24 hours.

“That racism has become so normalized from other corners in America is a sad commentary on our current societal moment. You’d think more people would speak out about this, but it’s passed over like it’s no big deal.”

It’s “passed over like it’s no big deal” because recent history is littered with those who have stood up against blatant racism on the left. Coincidentally, I ran across one of my “favorite” descriptors, this afternoon: “reverse racism,” a made-up term with unintended implications. Racism is racism. Irrespective of the color of the “perpetrator” or the color of the person “perpetrated” against.

The question is, as George Washinton University Law Professor Jonathan Turley asked, is:

“[W]hether a race-criteria for reporters is not just actionable but whether the media is prepared to sue Lightfoot for discriminatory policies. Such legal action could be challenging, particularly due to a lack of response from Lightfoot.”

The answer, Professor Turley, is “Oh hell no.”

What journalist in his or her right mind in America is going to, in effect, sign a death warrant on his or her career and go after Lightfoot or any public person of color for anything — let alone allegations of racism?

Right is right and wrong is wrong. Lightfoot of course is as wrong as she can be. But playing a “stupid game” in today’s race-obsessed America by suing Lightfoot and not expecting to win a “stupid prize” as a result would be a fool’s game.
