'If You Open That Can of Worms': Graham Threatens to Call FBI to Testify if Democrats 'Call One Impeachment Witness'

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has had enough of Impeachment Charade 2.0. I mean, Graham has really had enough of the sham impeachment, just as he and half of America had enough of the first sham impeachment — in both cases before the charades began.

During a Monday night appearance on “Hannity,” Graham told Hannity “the second impeachment trial is not wearing well over time,” adding: “Democrats are in a box.”

That “box,” Graham said, is Democrats should think twice before calling “one witness.” If they “open that can of worms,” Graham added, Republicans will call in the FBI to testify.

“If you open that can of worms, we’ll want the FBI to come in and tell us about how people pre-planned this attack and what happened with the security footprint at the Capitol. You open up Pandora’s Box if you call one witness.”

Graham explained that given the fact that House Democrats called no witnesses during the impeachment hearings, he and the Republicans are taking a hard stand against witnesses being called to testify in the impeachment trial, which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, February 9.

“The president of the United States was impeached within 50 hours without one witness being called, and he didn’t have a lawyer,” Graham told said.

“So one of the reasons we need to make sure this thing never goes anywhere is because I don’t wanna legitimize the impeachment process used in the House.”

“It’s a danger to democracy and the presidency itself,” he added, “so what’s gonna happen next?

“This ia floor [45 Senate Republican votes against an impeachment trial] not a ceiling on the votes to drop this case.

“There will be a motion to dismiss on day one of the trial. I think we’ll get more than 45 votes once we hear arguments about why it should be dismissed.

“And if we don’t get 51, we’ll go to trial.”

Graham was adamant. “I want your audience to know the following.”

They never called a witness in the House. If there’s an effort by the Democrats to call a single witness in the United States Senate — they had no record in the House — there will be delay of this trial, there will be a Pandora’s box being opened. We will want witnesses, and this thing will go for weeks if not months.”

“So I’m hoping we have a trial based on a stipulation of fact, not witnesses,” Graham said, “and we get this behind us in about three days after we begin.”

“If you open that can of worms, we’ll want the FBI to come in and tell us about how people pre-planned this attack and what happened with the security footprint at the Capitol,” he reiterated.

One “worm” who says he’s willing to come out of that opened can is Jake Angeli  — “The QAnon Shaman” — who pleaded not guilty last week for his prominent role in the storming of the Capitol, who now says he wants to testify at the impeachment trial.

“I cannot think of a better way to turn the upcoming impeachment trial into a complete circus than to call the QAnon Shaman as a witness on anything,” tweeted Graham.

Angeli, who also goes by Jacob Chansley, appeared to be one of the ringleaders inside the Capitol.

Graham also appeared on “Fox News Primetime” with rotating host Trey Gowdy, where he went into detail about why Republicans would call in the FBI to testify if the Democrats insist on witnesses, saying in part:

“We’ll want the FBI to come in and tell us about how people pre-planned this attack and what happened with the security footprint at the Capitol. You open up Pandora’s Box if you call one witness.”

Given Graham’s past proclivities, are we seeing Lindsey 1.0 or 2.0 in this case?

David Schoen, one of two new attorneys who will represent Trump in the impeachment trial, told “Hannity”  that Senate Democrats have already determined that Trump is guilty of the charge laid against him. Not exactly “breaking news,” is it?

“This process is completely unconstitutional and it is a very, very dangerous road to take with respect to the First Amendment, putting at risk any passionate political speaker which is really against everything we believe and in this country.

“Can you imagine any American citizen considering it to be a trial in which the judge and jury has already announced publicly that the defendant must be convicted in this case?

“And in fact, Senator Leahy called on, demanded that Senator McConnell vote for a conviction also [so] how can we possibly have a fair trial?

“Chuck Schumer, Senator Schumer promised a fair and full trial. You can’t, when you know that the jurors and the judge are biased going in.”

As reported by Reuters on Monday, House Democrats will be prosecuting the case in the Senate and are expected to announce as early as Tuesday (today) whether or not they will call witnesses.

As the suspense builds, one thing is certain. We’re gonna need a bigger popcorn machine.
