McConnell Vows to Continue Confirming Judges: 'We're Going to Run Through the Tape'

As we recall, following the death of Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in September, President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell ignored protestations from Democrats and the liberal media — no; in spite of histrionic Democrats and the hysterical barking hyenas of the liberal media — and successfully powered through the nomination and confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to fill Ginsburg’s seat.

Mission accomplished. Expeditiously so.

Then in late October, as reported by the Daily Wire, conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt interviewed McConnell about filling Barrett’s vacated seat on the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, along with other vacant seats — present and future — throughout the post-election lame-duck term. Hewitt asked:

“There is now a vacancy on the Seventh Circuit for which there is a nominee, and the death of a First Circuit judge has opened up a vacancy on that circuit. Certainly, that was not expected and is to be regretted. But do you expect the Senate to fill those two positions in the lame-duck term after the election?”

McConnell promptly went bottom-line with his response.

“Well, we’re going to run through the tape. We go through the end of the year, and so does the president. We’re going to fill the Seventh Circuit. And I’m hoping we have time to fill the First Circuit as well. And we are, by the way, confirming a district judge as soon as we get back after the election, and we’re going to clean the plate, clean all the district judges off as well.”

You go, Mitch. Seriously. The Turtle has his share of detractors, people, but he’s got this. Defiantly so. And the libs continue to lose their crap, of course.

“[Mitch McConnell’s] Senate has confirmed six district court nominees since the election … The move broke a ‘123-year tradition against voting on judicial nominees of an outgoing president of the defeated party during a lame-duck session.’”

Bless their hypocritical little hearts.

McConnell then warned — as have Donald Trump, Lindsey Graham, conservative pundits, and everyone else with a modicum amount of intelligence — about what will likely happen if the Democrats, enraged by the Barrett appointment, recapture the Senate, which will be determined by the January 5 runoff election in Georgia; assuming Biden becomes president.

“This Supreme Court-packing issue has been around all year long, and of course, there would be no oversight at all, as you suggest, of any scandals or anything that might reflect badly on the Democratic administration if there is a Democratic majority. Now the solution to this is 51 Republican senators. The one thing the majority leader can do that others cannot do in the Senate is to decide what we’re going to do, to set the agenda.”

After referencing his 2016 decision not to proceed with Barack Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland to fill the seat left vacant by Antonin Scalia — which not only sent Chuck Schumer and the Democrats into apoplectic meltdown; ACB’s appointment to the Court sent them into the histrionic stratosphere — McConnell said that if Schumer becomes majority leader and is in charge of setting the agenda, we can expect the worst.

“My biggest decision on agenda-setting, obviously, was the decision not to fill the Scalia vacancy. But it applies to a whole lot of other things as well. If Chuck Schumer is setting the agenda in the United States Senate, you can predict the worst. We will go hard left. The country will not look the same after two years of that as it does today.”

In addition to placing Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett on the Supreme Court, Trump and McConnell have also flipped the “notoriously liberal,” as Trump called it, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals (“Ninth Circus,” to Trump), which encompasses California, Arizona, Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada, Idaho, Guam, Oregon, and Washington — which was “a liberal bastion that has been aggressively reshaped into a more moderate court by the Trump administration,” as reported by Fox News in February.

Regardless of the official outcome of the presidential election, solidifying the conservative majority on the Supreme Court and reshaping the Ninth District will stand as a lasting accomplishment of a man whose first job in politics was as president of the United States.

Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, and Joe Biden cannot take that accomplishment away from him — regardless of the future. Nor can the disgraceful liberal media, who relentlessly and blatantly worked to destroy Trump’s presidency for four years.

In an article earlier today, I reported on Fox News host Laura Ingraham’s opening monologue on Monday, in which she not only gave a sober assessment of where she now sees “reality”; she also talked about the future of the Republican Party, and President Trump, as well.

“I cannot wait to see what President Trump does next,” she said. And she was right; neither can tens of millions of Americans.

But here’s the thing, as well. Trump’s accomplishments in the last four years left America in a better place than it was when he took office. Congressional Democrats and the “mainstream” media watched it happen; and it scared the hell out of them.
