Sasse explains our inaugurations weren’t always guaranteed to be a peaceful transfer of power. Specifically, detailing the strained exchange between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. Sen. Sasse reminds all of us that we’re lucky to live in a country that changes leadership every four years, by the will of the people at the ballot box, not by the blood of our citizens.
