Huntsman is the daughter of Jon Huntsman, former Governor of Utah, and Republican presidential candidate in 2012. Ms. Huntsman was acting as a contributor to Fox News prior to this announcement, she was previously on MSNBC as host of “The Cycle” from 2013-2015.
The Hill is reporting this is quite a big move for Huntsman:
Suzanne Scott, Fox News’s executive vice president of programming, says the 30-year-old Huntsman will make her official debut this Saturday.
“Abby’s energetic reporting and ability to connect with our viewers make her a great addition on the curvy couch,” said Scott. “We are pleased to welcome her to the ‘Fox & Friends Weekend’ team.”
According to Nielsen research, “Fox & Friends Weekend” is registering its highest ratings in network history, up 26 percent in total viewers, to 1.250 million, during 2016 and up 25 percent in the 25-54 age demographic, to 256,000.
“I am honored that FOX News has given me the opportunity to fulfill my lifelong dream of delivering the morning news and am excited to officially join the FOX & Friends family,” Huntsman said in a statement.
Huntsman is a graduate of the University of Penn. She was also named to Forbes “30 under 30” in media in 2013. This marks yet another change for Fox News as they continue to reach for a younger demographic. The ratings would indicate, they’re making the right moves with this program.
