Just a handy reminder that you shouldn’t expect some different version of Donald Trump – one who accepts the need to be a team player with the GOP – to come around the corner any time soon. He’s pretty happy about all his comments this week, no regrets about any of them, wouldn’t change a thing.
Trump sent shockwaves through the Republican establishment on Tuesday with his refusal in a Washington Post interview to endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan in his primary next week in Wisconsin, as well as voicing similar sentiments for incumbent Sens. John McCain, of Arizona, and Kelly Ayotte, of New Hampshire.
“I think we’re gonna do really well. I was, you know, very forthright when I said, when I made certain statements,” Trump told Florida CBS affiliate WPEC on Wednesday. “And you know, I’m happy with them. We’ll see what happens. I think we’re going to do very well.”
Meanwhile, Paul Ryan’s opponent, Paul Nehlen, unleashed a planned 39 tweet tweetstorm this morning that is full of conspiracy theories and pro-Trump hagiographic propaganda. Here are some of the greatest hits:
Anyway, he seems totally sane, which is probably why Ryan is beating him by about 70 points in the polls. Welcome to your new GOP.
