The Weekly Standard is reporting that Carly Fiorina’s inner circle has confirmed that the Cruz camp is vetting her as a possible VP pick. Obviously, there is a long way to go before then, but in the event that Cruz does emerge from a bruising contested convention, it would behoove him to have a fully vetted VP in the wings. From the WS:
Ted Cruz’s presidential campaign is vetting Carly Fiorina as a potential running mate, THE WEEKLY STANDARD has learned.
According to a spokeswoman for Fiorina, the former Hewlett-Packard CEO and one-time presidential candidate is being vetted by Cruz’s campaign.
“Normal stuff,” said Sarah Isgur Flores, who served as deputy campaign manager during Fiorina’s bid, when asked about the process. She added that Fiorina has met with members of the Cruz campaign and has given them financial disclosures and other documentation. Flores added that “no offers” have been made.
My expectation would be that if Cruz does emerge as the nominee, Fiorina would have the inside track. I would frankly be surprised if anyone else gets the nod from Cruz, for a whole host of reasons. Once again, we are a long way off from this becoming a reality, but it’s good to see the Cruz campaign planning ahead.
