Trump Supporters in Colorado Get Angry when Trump's Policies are Turned on Them

Trump supporters in Colorado are learning the pain that is sometimes associated with the proverbial shoe being placed on the other foot. The source of the most recent controversy came when a Colorado man placed an ad in a local paper that advertised that he was looking for a new downstairs tenant to share the building in which he lived. The only catch? Trump supporters need not apply:

GRAND JUNCTION – A Grand Junction landlord is looking for renters, but Donald Trump supporters aren’t welcome.

An ad posted in the Nickel last week boasts a downtown apartment with a great backyard. It’s the last line however, that’s capturing attention. It says, if voting for Donald Trump, do not call.

DOWNTOWN APARTMENT, 2 bedrooms, furnished or use your things, organic garden space, hot tub, great back yard, dogs allowed if they have references as good as yours. If voting for Donald Trump, do not call! (970) 778-8902, leave message on phone.

As you might have guessed, this guy has had his voicemail flooded with angry calls from petulant Trump supporters who are outraged – OUTRAGED, I say, at the idea that someone would deny rental space in his own home to Trump supporters.

Well, a few things. In the first place, this is perfectly legal in Colorado. Political status or affiliation is not a protected class in housing discrimination. So this guy is completely within his legal right to deny someone entry to his home based on their political beliefs.

In the second place, he is basically standing for the policy positions that have made Trump most popular in this campaign – the idea that it’s perfectly just and fair for people who have control over property (or a country) to have the absolute right to deny entry to anyone they want, for any reason, including their beliefs (be that support of Trump – or in Trump’s case, adherence to Islam).

Of course, now that Trump’s stated policies have been turned on them, they suddenly find these policies to be abhorrent, unconstitutional, and probably downright Satanic. They’re good white Americans, after all! There’s no reason for anyone to deny them the right to live wherever they want!

Sucks when the shoe is on the other foot.
