Hasta la vista, Hilda! Homage Paid As Obama's Union-Backed Labor Secretary Packs It In

Although she was never apparently a union member herself, one of union bosses’ best friends in the Obama administration, ethically-challenged Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, announced her resignation on Wednesday.

In a lengthy letter to DOL employees, Solis stated:

Over the Christmas and New Year holidays with my family in California, I enjoyed my first opportunity in years to reflect on the past and my future, with an open mind and an open heart. After much discussion with family and close friends, I have decided to begin a new future, and return to the people and places I love and that have inspired and shaped my life.

This afternoon, I submitted my resignation to President Obama. Growing up in a large Mexican-American family in La Puente, California, I never imagined that I would have the opportunity to serve in a president’s Cabinet, let alone in the service of such an incredible leader….

While Solis does not elaborate what her “new future” is, she goes on to praise Obama and the “accomplishments” of her anti-business labor department.

Over the last few years, those of us writing here at RedState have noted some of those “accomplishments,” as follows:

  • Labor Secretary Rewards Former Staff With Big Raises
Labor Secretary Hilda Solis rewarded six former staffers from her congressional office with political appointments and huge raises upon taking over at the Department of Labor. The appointees had significant pay increases averaging 50 percent upon changing jobs; one employee’s salary nearly doubled.
  • A Note to Labor Secretary Solis: Collective Bargaining Has No Place in Government
This past weekend, when ethically-challenged U.S. Secretary Hilda Solis told a cheering DNC crowd that “the fight is on” (referring to the Battle of Wisconsin) she openly declared her devotion to union bosses, as well as her disdain for the 88% of Americans who are union-free and stuck with the tab. Though it shouldn’t be a surprise as Solis was a board member of the American Rights at Work—the union “shadow group” mouthpiece pushing the hallucinogenically-named Employee Free Choice Act—while she served in Congress, such a blatant provocation on behalf of a particular constituency from an official in a cabinet-level position is a good reminder of just how far America has fallen.
  • The Unintended Consequences of Labor Secretary Hilda Solis’ Witch Hunt
In less than two weeks, on September 21st, the public comment period will be closing on a Department of Labor scheme to have employers report the amount of money paid to outside vendors (namely, attorneys, PR firms, website developers, video firms, polling firms and just about every type of communications and human resource consultant) as newly-minted “persuaders.”
  • Is the US Department of Labor About To Develop Hit Lists of Individuals To Be Targeted By Unions?
Despite Barack Obama’s campaign promise to ban the use of permanent replacement workers, it would require legislation in Congress to do so. This won’t likely occur any time soon. Therefore, his union cronies at the Department of Labor may have devised a more devious strategy, which is to make the replacement workers themselves targets for union retaliation.

Under the Department of Labor’s proposal, not only will the firms that supply replacement workers like be required to file reports with the Department of Labor, it is highly likely that the Department of Labor will require the replacement workers themselves have to file with the DOL, which will then make the information public, on the internet, for union bosses (and others to view).

  • The Latest From Obama’s Labor Dept: “You Might Be Union Busting If…”
…[I]n an effort to broaden the definition of “union busting,” it is the Department of Labor’s proposal to redefine the term ‘persuader’ that will force many unsuspecting businesses, associations, and “consultants” (i.e., lawyers, human resource consultants, PR firms, and others, as well as seminar attendees and providers) to report their fee arrangements to the federal government—or face jail time and/or fines for failing to do so.
  • Labor Secretary Hilda Solis To Headline AFL-CIO Union Organizing ‘Summit’
In yet another example the Obama Administration’s pandering to its union cronies while thumbing its nose at the other 88% of America that is union free, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis will be headlining (at taxpayer expense) to an AFL-CIO “summit” later this week in Minneapolis. The subject of the conference? How to target and unionize young people (and others).
  • Labor Secretary Hilda Solis uses gay-baiting slur in public.
It’s not turning into a good year for the Obama administration – in fact, it’s not been a good administration for the Obama administration – but I think that this is hardly an excuse for a Cabinet level official to use low-rent sexual epithets in public…
  • Obama’s Labor Department Looks To Take The ‘Family’ Out of Family Farms
Under a proposed “dramatic updating” of the nation’s child labor regulations, the Department of Labor is considering eliminating many of the tasks that children and young adults do on their family’s farm.
  • Obama’s Labor Secretary Sends Labor Day Message to Notorious SEIU: “You are now…part of the solution.”
Barack Obama’s Secretary of Labor, Hilda Solis, has never shied away from her affinity for union bosses. Though she has never been a union member herself (nor has she ever worked in the private sector), her love of unions, apparently, comes from her parents’ membership in unions.
  • Union Bosses’ Water Carriers: Is Obama Administration Dodging Overdue Pension Reports?
For several years now, even though problems were well documented before, union bosses have been hiding behind the current financial meltdown as a main cause for their massive pension under-funding problem. Now, it appears that the Obama Administration is helping to hide just how bad the problem is.
  • A Death By A Thousand Cuts
Now, imagine if you will, the federal government (at the behest of union bosses) terrorizing American businesses with the same ‘death by a thousand cuts’ strategies that unions use during corporate campaigns. However, instead of unions engaging in all of the tactics at the union’s expense, your tax dollars will be helping to fund the union’s corporate campaign.

While we’re pretty sure this won’t be the last we hear of Hilda Solis (there’s likely a job at an AFL-CIO or SEIU-funded think tank waiting for her), we do appreciate the fact that, under Hilda’s Department of Labor have given us the fodder for which to entertain (and disgust) tens of thousands of RedState readers.

We just can’t wait for union bosses to pick Obama’s next labor lackey secretary!

Hasta la vista, Hilda!
