For the progressive left Donald Trump has been the biggest Literally Hitler™ since literally Hitler. From hysterical women in pink, knit hats to hysterical celebrities shrieking on Twitter to hysterical politicians promising the end of America as we know it, it’s been 3 years of non-stop doom and gloom. If America as we know it is going to end because of a single man can’t we just get this over with already? It’s the waiting that is the worst part.

Of course, we know that Donald Trump is far from causing the end of America as we know it. Even his greatest and most hysterical detractors in politics know he is not an existential threat to American freedom. How do know? Because if Michelle Obama really believed what she says about the dangers of Trump she’d be running for president. If Oprah Winfrey really believed what she says about the dangers of Trump she’d be running for president. They both know their unique degree of influence and public popularity could present a very serious challenge to the president in a head-to-head election. They both know that the Democrat base has been begging for them or anyone with their influence to step in and save us all from Orange Bad Man.

So why don’t they? Because they both know this is all just politics. Mrs. Obama in particular understands the game very well. She knows that there is no existential threat to American politics. She understands very well that there will be another election and another after that and another after that and that none of this is permanent. She also understands that being president is a gigantic and high-pressure job. It is not for the weak at heart. Obama and Oprah have the luxury of saying, “Oh no, that job is just not for me!” because they both know Trump has no chance of destroying “America as we know it”. There will be another president who won’t be Donald Trump either sooner or later, and then we’ll all move on to the next existential crisis.

Even Mike Bloomberg knows this. He’s currently running on being the guy who can save America, but any talk out of his mouth about Trump being dangerous, evil or an immature maniac set on thrusting us into World War III is nothing but optics. Don’t believe a word.

In fact, footage of Bloomberg saying quite nice things about Mr.Trump has resurfaced. It’s not enough to be “damning” in any way, but it certainly speaks to the fact that all of the wailing and gnashing of teeth is for the cameras and the easily frightened. Here’s Bloomberg in 2016, saying he actually enjoys Trump and doesn’t find him to be an evil, homicidal dictator.

“But you really do love me, don’t ya?” Bloomberg recalled Trump asking him. “And I said, ‘Yes, Donald, I do love you, I just disagree with everything you’ve ever said.’”

“And we had a good laugh,” Bloomberg continued. “If you’ve sat and had dinner with Donald Trump, you’d probably walk away saying everything he just said is bulls–t, he can’t be doing that. But you have a good time. He is socially a nice person. Will he be a good president? I hope so. Because we desperately need leadership in the country and the world.”

This is no surprise to those of us who just can’t get on board with the whole “the sky is falling” routine. Every single high-profile Democrat who is now calling Trump a racist, sexist, bigot, rapist, traitorous dictator knows Trump and has taken his money, gone to his parties and dropped his name as a “friend” at some point in their career.

This is all a game. Trump’s very presence in the White House is proof that Americans have grown weary of the same old playbook. They’re looking for something new, even if it comes with some rough edges.

So far it looks like the Democrats have absolutely nothing new to offer.
