Welcome to the #SolarEclipse2017 edition of Hypocrisy Corner! This is where we point out the glaring hypocrisy of perfectly-coiffed politicians from around the globe.

Today, we turn our attention to the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. You’ll remember that upon Trump’s election, Prime Minister Hair didn’t waste any time in telling illegal immigrants and refugees that Canada will be their rescuer from the big, bad orange man in the White House

In January, Trudeau tweeted: “To those fleeing persecution, terror and war, Canadians will welcome you, regardless of your faith. Diversity is our strength.”

This was a direct response to Trump’s anti-illegal immigration platform, and conservatives of all stripes tried to explain that any nation should have the right to insist people immigrate legally. America is a nation of laws. Obey the law and partake of our national identity. Disobey and you will be deported (allegedly). Trudeau supporters lauded him as a hero for speaking in defiance of Trump’s stated position on immigration.

Low and behold, just months later Trudeau is starting to sound like the Donald Trump of the Great White North. Migrants and illegal immigrants have been streaming across the Canadian border seeking asylum. It seems Trudeau’s comments led many to believe they’d be fast-tracked for citizenship if they were seeking asylum. The numbers have been overwhelming, forcing Trudeau to address the problem.

CBC News reported on a press conference Trudeau gave on Sunday regarding immigration issues and asylum seekers.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has a message for asylum seekers: crossing illegally into the country doesn’t offer an advantage when it comes to obtaining refugee status in Canada.

“If I could directly speak to people seeking asylum, I’d like to remind them there’s no advantage,” Trudeau said at a news conference Sunday in Montreal.

“Our rules, our principles and our laws apply to everyone.”

Trudeau’s comments come as the government grapples with a surge in asylum seekers crossing into Quebec.

In the first two weeks of August, more than 3,800 people walked over the border into the province, compared to the 2,996 who crossed throughout all of July.

Speaking prior to Montreal’s Pride Parade, Trudeau stressed that anyone seeking refugee status will have to go through Canada’s “rigorous” screening process.

He said the government is managing the unprecedented flow of predominantly Haitian asylum seekers and that all of them will be subjected to the usual security checks and evaluations before obtaining refugee status in Canada.

Unlike in the United States, Haitians have no special status in Canada. About half of Haitians seeking refugee status in Canada have been denied in the last couple of years.

Wait one minute…Americans have a more compassionate immigration process than Canadians? Who knew? Certainly not CNN…and most of Canada. It turns out the United States extends more help to black and brown immigrants than Canadians.

Canadian conservative pundit Michelle Rempel  says the government knew from the start Canada did not have the ability to deal with large numbers of asylum seekers.

“They knew it was going to be a problem this summer. And their response has been building tent cities on the U.S./Canada border,” she said in an interview with CBC News.

The most shocking part of this utter hypocrisy is what the news organizations seem determined to ignore…Trudeau is deporting illegal asylum seekers back to their homelands. Exactly what President Trump is seeking to do with America’s glut of illegal border crossers.

Rempel said Trudeau’s statement was misleading and said he should make it more explicit that asylum seekers risk being deported to their country of origin if they enter Canada illegally.

She is also calling on government to boost funding for the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB). Those seeking refugee status must have a hearing at the IRB, but even without this summer’s surge in asylum seekers, there are already backlogs, allowing people to stay in Canada while they wait for a hearing.

Rempel calls that an incentive for people to cross illegally into Canada, and argues increasing funding to the IRB would help curb that incentive.

So let’s recap: Prime Minister Trudeau and the Canadian left have had nothing but criticism and disdain for President Trump’s stance on illegal immigration while actually being harsher with illegal immigrants than President Trump himself.
