As the clock struck 9:00 p.m. EST on Monday night, and the president walked to the podium, the wailing began.
In the end, President Trump chose Judge Brett Kavanaugh, and not “extreme” Judge Amy Barrett, to be his nominee for the Supreme Court. But this matters little to those on the other side of the aisle who were set to writhe about no matter what.
Justices who are left-leaning are fair and noble. Educated and measured. Ready to uphold the constitution. They are legal gods who walk among us. That’s what they say.
Whenever a Supreme Court nominee is chosen by a Republican president, though, the reaction is quite different. Not only is there some sort of hidden agenda, but they are known to be sexual harassers (Clarence Thomas), professionally inexperienced members of a cult (Amy Barrett), or lovers of assault weapons and proponents of forced birth who are on a mission to steal all of your contraception (Brett Kavanaugh).
On the surface, it may sound like I’m exaggerating the claims against their sharp legal minds, but you know I’m not.
Since President Trump assumed office, the United States has supposedly been a dystopian nightmare. Women’s rights (read: vacuuming babies out of wombs) are under fire. Females are being oppressed at an alarming rate or some such nonsense. It’s all so last season, so tiring, and so predictable. But it will continue. That is the way of modern-day feminism.
Naturally, the president’s selection for the high court was always going to be the worst for women in the minds of Leftists. Whether or not Roe is even addressed in the near (or distant) future remains to be seen. That a justice may personally be against abortion is unacceptable.
With that being said, here are some of my favorite, hysterical responses to Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination.
Forget abortion or same-sex marriage—contraception could be banned under Justice Kavanaugh https://t.co/W8qg7txtFQ

“When Roe is overturned, please note it will be done by 5 men. Women will be kicked back 50 years & sentenced to death by F I VE men. I expect birth control to be harder or impossible to get as well. This has nothing to do with life and everything to do with controlling women”.

Of course, the harpies at NARAL always have to do their regular fear-mongering.
We cannot allow our daughters & granddaughters to have 𝘧𝘦𝘸𝘦𝘳 rights than we do. Message your senators & tell them to vote NO on #SCOTUSpick Brett Kavanaugh to protect #RoevWade & the #reprofreedom of millions now & for generations to come. https://t.co/bMdadWQmVE

And Cecile Richards, too.
Access to safe and legal abortion, birth control, and other basic health care is hanging in the balance. If you’re one of the 7 in 10 Americans who don’t want to see Roe v. Wade overturned, this is the time to call your senators. #ScotusPick

.@CecileRichards on Brett Kavanaugh's record: "It's far beyond abortion rights. He's taken the position that bosses should be able to determine whether their employees get birth control… The threats to women's health and women's rights are profound" #DNlive pic.twitter.com/U4FXCUCUZf

I guess it’s fitting that these individuals just adore The Handmaid’s Tale, a work of fiction, since the truth is not something that concerns them.
First of all, even if Roe/Casey were to be reconsidered and essentially struck down, the issue of abortion would go to the states. At that level, there have been many incremental victories, ie. 15-20 week abortion bans, waiting periods, ultrasound requirements. The grassroots level has always been the real battleground. This is where hearts and minds are changed.
Secondly, birth control isn’t going away. That will never happen. Not only are there many different kinds, but they are all readily available at your local pharmacy, Walmart, Target, etc. And even if your employer has some legally-protected religious objection to covering birth control, you are still able to purchase it if your heart desires. You may have to use your own money, but hey, you’re an independent woman. You’ve got this, sugar.
The weeping. The gnashing of teeth. The flailing around on social media. All of it’s expected from the abortion community and their supporters. As we’ve seen, the protesters were going to react this way no matter who became the nominee. I would ask them to stop, but it’s sadly amusing.
And like the story they love, none of it is an accurate description of a future reality.
