Trump Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize...Just Like Obama!

Donald Trump, the politically unaccomplished king of nasty, insulting, junior high-type behavior, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. Yes, you read that correctly.

It is yet another example of how eerily similar Barack Obama and Donald Trump are to each other. Both have created a cult of personality where substance is lacking and emotion rules the day. Remember how absurd it was that the brand new inhabitant of the Oval Office won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize? There was no reason to nominate the man for his so-called promotion and pursuit of peace. The same exact thing can be said for Trump’s lack of accomplishment, other than angry talk. But as reported by Agence France Presse, he is in fact a nominee:

…US Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump has also been nominated for the prize, according to Nobel watcher Kristian Berg Harpviken, the director of the Peace Research Institute of Oslo.

According to a copy of the nomination letter Harpviken said he had received, brash tycoon Trump — who has attracted international condemnation by calling for a ban on Muslims entering the United States — deserves the prize for “his vigorous peace through strength ideology, used as a threat weapon of deterrence against radical Islam, ISIS, nuclear Iran and Communist China”.

I’m almost sad part of the explanation for him deserving the prize didn’t include his promise to build a really big wall with a big beautiful door…that he’ll make Mexico pay for somehow. I don’t see peace through strength associated with his rhetoric. I see a man incapable of contributing actual solutions to the problems of terrorism and immigration. All the while, however, people confuse his loudness for ability to address such issues. That is why he is nominated. I would almost bet he nominated himself, but apparently, you’re not allowed to do that.

I asked in a recent piece “Is Trumpmania Different Than Obamamania?”, and the answer is still no. This fits squarely into my “Lack of Credentials” and “Racial Element” categories I shared there. Trump, like Obama, lacks any credentials or accomplishments whatsoever for the nomination of a prize promoting peace – even one for his version of it. And the racial element? Trump is supported by and has acknowledged that some of his supporters are the crazy white nationalists who just don’t like brown people. That’s not peace, that’s racism and divisiveness.

Just like Obama is the extreme version of feel-good politics, Trump is the extreme version of feel-bad politics. Like the 2009 winner, Trump is not deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize. And like Obama, he doesn’t deserve the presidency, either.
