In today’s Wall Street Journal, my good friend Republican Whip Eric Cantor lays out why House Republicans are fighting to stop taxes from going up at the end of this year:

Lest there be any doubt why we are so determined to fight—instead of going quietly and giving President Obama his way before Congress bolts for the elections—the GOP has two primary motivations. The first concerns the pain that tax increases threaten to inflict on our economy over the short term. The second is to stop the slide under our current leadership towards becoming a stagnant European-style welfare state with limited individual opportunity and entrepreneurship.

Our economy must create more jobs. And raising taxes will not do that. Whip Cantor is spot on. Check out the whole article when you have a chance.

As part of our effort to bring new voices to Congress, I also wanted to highlight a common-sense conservative from my home state of California who is fighting for jobs, water for our farms, and less spending. Cherry farmer Andy Vidak is challenging Rep. Jim Costa, who voted for Obamacare and a failed stimulus, all while unemployment in parts of the 20th District are above 28 percent!

This weekend, I campaigned with Andy on one of California’s Central Valley farms. I talked with him about his race and the issues facing the district:

Unlike Jim Costa, Andy is listening to the people in his district and will bring real solutions to Washington. He’s running a good race that has liberal bloggers worried.
