Paul Manafort Takes Surprise Move Against Mueller, Justice Department

Paul Manafort, former campaign manager for Donald Trump, is suing the U.S. Justice Department.

NBC News first reported the story on Wednesday, just two months after Manafort was charged in the Russia investigation led by former FBI Director Robert Mueller. Manafort and his attorneys filed the lawsuit Wednesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

According to court documents tweeted by Washington Post legal reporter Spencer Hsu.

Manafort is suing Rod Rosenstein in his official capacity as acting attorney general and Mueller in his official capacity as special counsel for the Russia investigation, alleging that the special counsel does not have the jurisdiction to pursue the charges against Manafort.

Manafort pleaded not guilty to the charges against him in October.
