One person was killed and three others were injured after a man entered Cielo Vista Mall in El Paso, Texas. There is a suspect in custody, but few answers are available as to what led to the violent act.
According to the El Paso Times, police have confirmed that there are no active shooters in the area.
“We have one person in custody,” El Paso Police Department spokesman Sgt. Robert Gomez said at a news conference. One more person might be involved as well but has not been detained, he added. No description of the outstanding suspect was available.
“We don’t have any active shooters at this time,” Gomez said. “All we know right now that it’s isolated to Cielo Vista Mall.”
The shooter when into the mall and began firing sometime around 5:10 p.m.

There is little other information on the shooter available at this time, and nothing on his possible motives.
However, this isn’t the first high-profile shooting in the area.
On August 3, 2019, a man entered the Walmart next to the mall and opened fire, killing nearly two dozen people and injuring dozens of others. It was a high-profile event that grabbed national headlines. That shooter pled guilty to federal hate crimes last week.
While these two events are unrelated, it is another act of violence that has become all too common in this day and age.
