Kind of like how comparing 1/6 to 9/11 is really, really dumb, comparing literally anything happening in America to Nazi Germany is always really stupid and really wrong. There is nothing happening in America that is comparable to what happened to the Jews in Nazi Germany. There will never be anything in America that is comparable to what happened to the Jews in Nazi Germany.
Yet, that doesn’t stop people from making the comparison, for some reason. Right now, Democrats and the media are all up in arms over a statement made by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, an avid Trump supporter with a history of outlandish statements and beliefs. Greene’s most recent controversy came late last week, where she compared the House’s mask mandate to the Holocaust.
Greene, in a conversation with the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody Real America’s Voice TV show “The Water Cooler,” attacked Pelosi and accused her of being a hypocrite for asking GOP members to prove they have all been vaccinated before allowing members to be in the House chamber without a mask.
“You know, we can look back at a time in history where people were told to wear a gold star, and they were definitely treated like second class citizens, so much so that they were put in trains and taken to gas chambers in Nazi Germany,” Greene said. “And this is exactly the type of abuse that Nancy Pelosi is talking about.”
She then followed it up with this.
"I think any rational Jewish person didn't like what happened in Nazi Germany & any rational Jewish person doesn't like what's happening with overbearing mask mandates."

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy would days later call the remarks unacceptable and many Republicans would follow suit. But, Democrats and the media called the remarks “anti-semitic,” a phrase that is slowly but surely losing all meaning in America. They have demanded she resign, and they will not stop harping on that.
And yes, Greene’s comments are unacceptable. It is a stupid comparison, stunning in both its historical ignorance and the casualness with which it’s thrown out. However… we just went through four very tough years of everything being compared to Nazi Germany roughly sixty percent of the time (about thirty-five percent was everything being compared to Handmaid’s Tale while the remaining five percent was incoherent outrage). There are some things (or a lot of things, depending on your point of view) that could be condemned in the Trump Administration, but nothing ever came near the level of Nazi Germany. Still, they maintained it was.
When you compare something to the Holocaust, you are demeaning what actually happened there, and Jewish groups have every right to be offended. At the same time, politicians like Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib have gotten away with spreading actual pro-Palestine anti-semitic propaganda, but they receive no blowback over that. Their statements have encouraged not only more attacks against Israel, but hate crimes here in the U.S.
Greene is not someone to admire. She is making these statements in order to draw attention, and then fundraise off the ensuing outrage. “The Democrats are trying to CANCEL me!!” her fundraising emails will scream. And people who support her will give her money. She is seeking the spotlight, and the Democrats want her to have it because they are trying to make her the spokesperson for the Republican Party as a whole.
As all this is going on in Washington D.C., but meanwhile the rest of America is re-opening, healing, and trying to find work. The media and the Democrats are trying to distract the rest of America from how awful things have gotten with the economy and want you to focus on this lunatic woman in Congress who is saying requiring masking up is like the Holocaust.
For any Republican being asked about Greene’s comments, at this point why would you reply with anything other than “For four years, Democrats said everything was like Nazi Germany, and for four years you didn’t ask them to defend themselves or their colleagues. Now, what I do want to talk about it…” and then just move on. There’s no point in even giving her words any airtime because they are a meaningless grab for attention.
Either actually govern or just go home for a while and leave the rest of us alone.
