Abrams Officially off the Shortlist: "No One Takes Stacey Seriously"

Abrams tells The Associated Press she will not run for a U.S. Senate seat in 2020 despite being heavily recruited by national party leaders. As we draw nearer and nearer to Joe Biden picking his running mate, it’s becoming clearer who is and is not going to make it.

It has become fairly clear that Elizabeth Warren is on the rise to take Abrams’ spot as the media darling in the race for Vice President, but just how far Abrams’ star had fallen wasn’t clear until recently. Several Biden insiders have spoken out, saying that “No one takes Stacey seriously,” and that’s despite her very aggressive media campaign to be taken seriously.

To be fair to the Biden team, Abrams has absolutely no record of accomplishment whatsoever. She lost the only statewide race she’s ever been in and has only ever been a state legislator. There are also whispers out of Georgia that some state Democrats feel her operation after the 2018 election was more of a grifter movement than a genuine one. Abrams did not make anyone happy with how loudly and vocally she had been auditioning for the job of Vice President.

In some political circles, tact and decorum still matter, and Abrams’ campaign for VP lacked both. It simply is not something you audition for as loudly and publicly as she did, and it turned a lot of Democrats off.

Some of those Biden insiders I mentioned above? They spoke to the New York Post about her.

“No one takes Stacey seriously. And her public campaigning for the job seems more like a hostage negotiation than an actual attempt to get the job,” a Biden insider told The Post. “Biden is an old school guy and will always be. Picking Stacey would be like picking [Sarah] Palin. He doesn’t need to throw a Hail Mary. He wants a good governing partner.”

Internally, her star has fallen with the onset of the coronavirus as concerns grow about her preparedness.

“Stacey isn’t ready on day one. Even she knows that and it’s why she’s engaging in this dance. She might get perfunctorily better, but she’s not a serious pick for him. And her campaign is viewed as much as promotion for her book as it is for being chosen as Biden’s VP,” the insider continued, referring to Abrams’ forthcoming book “Our Time Is Now.”

That is a very harsh critique, but it is one that is well-deserved.

Abrams has nothing to offer Biden, and it is completely obvious. She offers no real expertise on anything except being a woman of color, and that can only take a person so far, even in Democratic circles.

The thing about Biden is that he’s been in federal politics forever. As one insider told the Post, he’s old school and believes people need to have experience and “pay their dues.” Abrams hasn’t ever paid any dues, and she hasn’t earned the right to be on the national stage. As a result, there appear to be fewer and fewer in national politics who take her seriously, and it’s very clear that she has no future left in national politics, unless she somehow manages to upset Georgia Governor Brian Kemp in 2022 — a scenario that, as of now, is not likely.
