UPDATE: Shooting at Maryland School, Three Injured (Including the Shooter)

The St. Mary’s County sheriff’s office in Maryland is confirming a shooting investigation is underway at a local high school.

The shooting occurred earlier this morning, and the school, which is just south of Washington D.C., has been on lockdown since the incident. According to a local NBC affiliate, there are multiple injuries reported.

A Twitter post from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office asked parents not to report to the school due to the incident, but to go to a high school in nearby Leonardtown instead.

The school is on lockdown, and the incident has been contained, St. Mary’s County Public Schools says. Parents of students at Great Mills High School are being told to report to Leonardtown High School to receive information or pick up their child.

There is little more information out right now, but we will provide updates here and in subsequent posts as we get them.

UPDATE: Some sources have been saying that there were three injured in the shooting, but we’re seeing for the first time confirmation from a local news outlet. Among the three injured is the shooter, and a school resource officer was responsible for ending the threat quickly.
