Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), presumably after he wakes up to find President Donald Trump decided to start tweeting about him at 6:30 in the morning.

Donald Trump appears to not be handling criticism of his Charlottesville statements very well, taking to Twitter early this morning to slam South Carolina’s Lindsey Graham over the Senator’s statements from yesterday.

Publicity seeking Lindsey Graham falsely stated that I said there is moral equivalency between the KKK, neo-Nazis & white supremacists……

…and people like Ms. Heyer. Such a disgusting lie. He just can't forget his election trouncing.The people of South Carolina will remember!

The fact of the matter is, however, that Graham is not wrong in his assessment. When you say that some people who decided to march with white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and klan members are just as fine as some people on the other side, you are creating a moral equivalency there.

As Caleb Howe put it early this morning:

There is no plausible fourth option. He said not all of the people were “neo-Nazis”. You guys. They were marching WITH neo-Nazis. They were standing in solidarity with swastikas and white hoods. Those are not fine people. But that’s what he said.

So you simply cannot blithely claim “that’s not what he said.” It is what he said.

There is power in words when the President of the United States says them, and what he did was say that some of these despicable racists were just as good as Ms. Heyer. There is no other way to interpret it, unless you spin so hard it affects the rotation of the earth.

So, Lindsey Graham is one hundred percent correct and Donald Trump is zero percent correct. That’s how this plays out.

“The people of South Carolina will remember!” Is that some sort of electoral threat? Trump’s picks and supporters have not done too well in recent elections. If that record holds, he’s all but ensured Lindsey Graham will be in the Senate forever.

But, most importantly, the President of the United States is up at 6:30 a.m. and immediately takes to Twitter to slam people who disagree with him. It’s not a matter of whether or not it’s presidential (to be clear, it is not). It’s a matter of mental health.

This isn’t healthy behavior. It needs to stop.
