Earlier, multiple reports broke that James Comey had asked the Department of Justice for additional funding for the Russia probe that has plagued the Trump Administration since before Donald Trump took office.

However, DOJ officials are going on the record denying the claim.

Instead, the indication seems to be that Comey was asking for more resources, not funding.

The New York Times and the Associated Press both published stories saying sources confirmed the claim. The Wall Street Journal soon carried the story, as did other right-leaning outlets.

As mentioned in the initial post, the claim would, at best, create a bad optical situation for the Trump administration. The DOJ’s denial, however, throws a wrench into that narrative, and it is important to note that it is an up front denial and not some political response with vague interpretations.
