U.S. [mc_name name=’Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-LA)’ chamber=’senate’ mcid=’L000550′ ] spends approximately all of her time in Washington D.C., which is odd because she is supposed to represent Louisiana. Makes sense that she should live here and not simply claim a home co-owned by her and the rest of her family.

Now, when it comes to Louisiana, there are some differences in our civics lessons vs. the rest of the nation’s. For one thing, we’re one of the few places with this fantastic (read: not necessarily ideal) “jungle primary” system. For another, we don’t have counties. We have parishes. Everyone here knows this.

Except for Mary Landrieu, apparently, who made this particular mistake during a Tuesday night debate.

This is not an ideal gaffe for someone who is trying to fend off accusations that she is no longer someone who lives in the state enough to actually represent her constituents. Polling is less than ideal for Mary, and hasn’t been for a while now. She is still polling on top in the primary, but in the December general, she is lagging well behind the presumptive GOP leader, [mc_name name=’Rep. Bill Cassidy (R-LA)’ chamber=’house’ mcid=’C001075′ ].

Usual warning: Never underestimate a Landrieu in a re-election. The DSCC pulling out of Kentucky could mean a push in close states like Louisiana in a move to protect what they have left.
