The Further Weaponization of the United States Government

Since at least before the 2012 re-election, and unbeknownst to Americans until fairly recently, the administration that currently runs the White House has been weaponizing various government agencies at a rate never before seen in U.S. history.

The Internal Revenue Service was used to silence conservative groups. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office was used to force social change, despite receiving zero complaints prior. I would also argue that the Transportation Security Administration has been weaponized to stop us from actually flying, but that is a conspiracy theory for another day.

Currently, however, there is a new form of government weaponization: Immigration enforcement agencies.

Their jobs, allegedly, are to prevent humanitarian crises like what’s going on at the border from happening. There is a process, spelled out by law, that is supposed to take place. There is no indication, save the lies the administration will feed to us, which were even called out by ABC, that they are doing so.

There are tens of thousands of illegal immigrants who have made their way across the border, and there has been no measurable stemming of the tide. Not even close. Instead of enforcing the law, the U.S. government is using taxpayer money to fly them further into the United States, in some cases without telling the new host cities that they will have guests.

This is all a ploy to get the Republicans to cave to immigration reform and to get a new Democratic voting base in the United States. Immigration enforcement has not done its job, leaving us in a situation that the Obama administration thought would force Republicans into doing what he wanted.

And it is not working. Republicans are adamantly fighting any new immigration proposal, and offering none of the money the president is requesting to “fix” the issues we now face. He avoided going to the border in Texas until the last possible moment, sat down for a meet and greet, then left. Much like Fast and Furious, this operation by his administration is backfiring, and either he knows it or no one is really telling him (he may not be watching or reading the news anymore and is thus way behind on what’s going on, too).

The president’s inner circle has been so sure they could strong-arm anyone into doing anything, and the Supreme Court has unanimously shot him down on 20 occasions, the Republicans fought back (sometimes), and the voters are rejecting him. And, he’s running out of bureaucracies to weaponize. Though, with any luck, he’ll just launch EPA agents from cannons at us.
