The first game of the NFL season for 2025 didn’t open with the National Anthem; it opened with "Lift Every Voice and Sing." I was about to sit down and watch the game when Laurin Talese was introduced. My shoulders flexed downward – I muted the TV and left to do something else.
Since the summer of unrest over the death of George Floyd, the NFL has allowed teams to have performers sing the song, known as "the Black national anthem." The song has made appearances at season-opening matchups as well as Super Bowls before kickoffs.
"Lift Every Voice and Sing" may be a lovely song, and I bet that Talese rendition was lovely, but rather than unite, that song has become a lightning rod for divisiveness. Rather than bringing people together, the NFL seems intent on poking people with a message stick. “End Racism” or "It Takes All of Us" are stenciled at the end of each endzone.
For the last six seasons, the NFL has painted that banal messaging on the backs of each endzone, as if an actual racist would see those slogans and they would recognize their moral rot and they would cast their racism aside. It’s silly. Everyone knows it's absurd and patronizing. But the NFL seems intent on dividing rather than uniting, and treating its customers like 4-year-olds.
As the Defund the Police movement took flight, the NFL, sadly, did not support police like it should have. Goodell even publicly praised Colin Kaepernick in 2020: "I wish we had listened earlier, Kaep, to what you were kneeling about and what you were trying to bring attention to. We had invited him in several times to have the conversation, to have the dialogue. I wish we had the benefit of that. We never did, and we would’ve benefited from that. Absolutely."
I’ve written plenty about Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick isn’t a uniter – he’s a race-baiting divider. And, it seems clear that the commissioner of the NFL is intent on dividing and pushing buttons as well.

The 2025 Super Bowl was produced by Jay-Z (his production company has produced each halftime since Floyd's death) and featured Kendrick Lamar. Lamar’s halftime included lyrics like: “Say Drake, I hear you like them young' and 'trying to strike a chord and it's probably 'A' minor.” Lamar apparently hates Drake, so he thought the Super Bowl was a good time to poke at his nemesis. Lamar’s all-black dancer crew danced for the stadium crowd, and they performed for anyone who didn't walk away from the TV. People watching on TV could leave, mute, or stay to watch. I didn’t watch. I muted and left the room. So much for unity or, for that matter, entertainment. 2025 was considered the worst Super Bowl halftime show ever.

Now, the NFL and Roger Goodell are saying to the world, "HOLD MY BEER!" Roger has decided that 2026 needs to top Kendrick Lamar's awfulness and his pushing buttons. The NFL has hired "Bad Bunny" as its halftime entertainer.
Bad Bunny appeared on "SNL" Saturday night, and couldn't resist mocking his critics. His monologue was [mostly] in English.

I don't blame you if you don't want to waste time watching it. Below are the main points:
The 31-year-old Puerto Rican native, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, said he was “excited” to be named the headlining act for the big game at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara in February, but urged critics they have “four months to learn” Spanish.
“I’m really excited to be doing the Super Bowl, I know that people all around the world who love my music are also happy,” Bad Bunny said during Saturday’s monologue.
...
“Especially all of the Latinos and Latinas in the world here in the United States who have worked to open doors,” he said in Spanish. “It’s more than a win for myself, it’s a win for all of us. Our footprints and our contribution in this country, no one will ever be able to take that away or erase it.”
The performer then added, “If you didn’t understand what I just said. You have four months to learn.”
No, gracias, señor.
I’m not much interested in being lectured in Spanish or English. If you’re a betting person, one “sure bet” is that Bad Bunny will lecture the audience during halftime. He suffers from a severe case of TDS. Unless Trump or JD Vance shows up for the halftime show wearing a sombrero, I'll spend the 2026 halftime doing the same thing I did this past Super Bowl halftime.
Mute... where's the beer, and who needs more chips?
Editor’s Note: The Schumer Shutdown is here. Rather than put the American people first, Chuck Schumer and the radical Democrats forced a government shutdown for healthcare for illegals. They own this.
