The Week in Stupid: Racist Horses, Angry Alex Jones, and Lonely Jim Acosta

I threatened to make it a weekly feature but you didn’t believe me. There is still plenty of stupidity to destroy any remaining confidence you might have in the people of the United States.

…And the horse you rode in on.

Some dunderheads at USC are claiming that their mascot’s horse’s name is a reminder of white supremacy.

When Richard Saukko galloped his chalk-white Arabian horse named Traveler around the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum almost 56 years ago, it was supposed to be a one-time stunt.

Instead, the brief performance before USC kicked off its season against Georgia Techturned into one of college football’s iconic traditions. A succession of white horses named Traveler have followed — Traveler IX debuts this fall — trotting out of the tunnel as “Conquest” plays and the costumed Trojan warrior atop the horse waves a sword. But during a rally earlier this week to show solidarity in the aftermath of the violence in Charlottesville, Va., a USC campus group linked the name to Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, whose favorite horse was Traveller.

At the rally, according to the student newspaper the Daily Trojan, Saphia Jackson, co-director of the USC Black Student Assembly, asked students not to be quiet, and reminded that “white supremacy hits close to home” and referenced the name of the Trojans mascot.

The school’s mascot isn’t a horse. It’s a Trojan warrior. What do we know about the racial attitudes in ancient Troy? I think Saphia Jackson should be looking into that before she starts accusing horses of white supremacy.

I would say that this is peak racial paranoia on campus but I recall a story a few years back about a school banning the use of the word “picnic” because of it’s racist origins. (Long story short: it has none.)

Forget what I said

I know it’s shocking that there would be something stupid about President Trump’s Twitter stream but it’s true. This week he contradicted himself within matter of minutes. Never mind that eliminating the filibuster is in itself a stupid and shortsighted idea, but Trump barely got finished blasting the Senate for how few bills they were passing before he boasted about how many his administration had signed.

But wait…

What is even the point of Alex Jones?

This week we were treated to video of tinfoil hat nutter Alex Jones wandering city streets screaming at random citizens. This is entertaining, but incredibly stupid. (Language warning.)

There are people who get their news from this guy…stupid people.

Jim Acosta reporting on Jim Acosta

CNN’s Jim Acosta is a known tool but this tweet was pretty stupid even for him.

Um, no, Jim. There’s also whoever was taking your picture for you. Are we supposed to be impressed that Acosta remains in a briefing room while there’s no briefing taking place? Also is he watching Japanese wrestling?

And let’s not forget these examples of stupidity already covered by RedState.
