Trinity College Reinstates Professor Suspended for Calling for the Death of White People

Yesterday I wrote about how  left leaning columnist Bari Weiss was disheartened by the Left’s tendency to “embrace hate.”  Maybe Weiss should examine what’s happening at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut.

Trinity Professor of Sociology, Johnny Eric Williams was suspended back in June for promoting an article that “bigots” should be left to die whenever you find one in a fatal situation. We’re constantly told by the academic race agitators that all white people are racist so this was basically an article about how white people should be killed through inaction.

Trinity College said it received threats related to social media posts by Johnny Eric Williams. The campus of the liberal arts school in Hartford is closed until further notice.

Trinity President Joanne Berger-Sweeney said in a statement Wednesday that the sociology professor shared a piece on his social media accounts this week that concluded with a call to show indifference to the lives of bigots. Williams also used a hashtag that connected directly to the conclusion of the article, Berger-Sweeney said.

She said his use of the hashtag was reprehensible and a dean is looking into whether college policies were broken.

It was reprehensible but not bad enough for Williams to lose his job. He has been reinstated.

Following the backlash from the report, Trinity College put Professor Williams on leave, beginning on June 26, according to The Federalist.

But College Dean and Vice President Tom Cresswell eventually produced a 31-page report that concluded Williams Facebook posts were “extramural utterances” and were protected by the school’s policy of academic freedom.

College President Joanne Berger-Sweeney backed the Dean’s report and added that while Williams actions “offend me personally” and “contradicts our fundamental institutional values,” she has nevertheless decided to reinstate the professor in good standing.

Trinity is a private college so dismissing an employee for condoning calls for murder isn’t really a “free speech” issue. It’s a matter of common sense. Had the hatred spewed by Williams been directed at any group other than white people he would never work again most likely.

Williams later said that he is “fed the f*ck up with self-identified ‘white’s’ daily violence directed at immigrants, Muslims, and sexual and racially oppressed people,” adding, “the time is now to confront these inhuman assholes and end this now.”

“It is patently clear we black folks in U.S. have no rights that the white supremacy governing apparatus is willing to protect,” he later posted on Facebook.

This is not only hateful, it’s moronic. I would expect an institute of learning wouldn’t want its educators to be hateful but if they can overlook the hate, I would think they would at least reject stupidity. One positive sign is that the school has lost private donations over this embrace of hatred.  Trinity’s website talks about how open they are.

At Trinity, we believe in independent thinking. We stand for it and we teach it. So you can pursue engineering and minor in art. You can chase a career in politics and also cultivate a love of biology. We’ll help you pursue whatever path piques your interest. And though your time here will require hard work, the effort will be well worthwhile.

They like independent thinking even when it’s independent of decency and reality.
