Melania took some heat for allegedly lifting some lines from Michelle Obama for her RNC Convention speech, but did her husband lift a line from a Batman villain’s speech?
EW embedded a video by Deadspin editor Timothy Burke which mashed up the relevant lines: Mr. Trump saying, “…and giving it back to you, the people,” followed by Batman nemesis Bane telling a captive audience, “…and we give it back to you, the people.”
Covering the uncanny similarity, EW quipped, “Too bad Trump’s echoed line wasn’t from The Joker, or Mark Hamill would have been all over this.”
In The Dark Knight Rises the villain Bane makes this statement in a monologue:
We take Gotham from the corrupt, the rich, the oppressors of generations who have kept you down with myths of opportunity – and we give it back to you, the people.
I guess the weirdest election in history wouldn’t be complete without one final bit of weirdness at the inauguration.
