An uncomfortable yet altogether accurate truism is that when many people ask for an opinion, they’re not genuinely interested in obtaining one from you. What they are seeking is their opinion coming out of your mouth. Apparently, it sounds better.

This is not the way. The way is to seek Christ’s opinion, be it directly from His Word or through those led by the Spirit and gifted with the ability to explain God’s Word with enriching accuracy. There are no Scriptural hidden secrets. However, there is always something new to learn.

Seek information, not affirmation. If what you believe is true, information naturally includes affirmation. If not … well, you might want to examine those beliefs and see where they’re going off track.

Earlier today, today being February 17th, 2023, I wrote a story for RedState about a British woman named Isabel Vaughan-Spruce and her recent acquittal of charges she had violated a Public Spaces Protection Order. Her “crime” was standing in front of an abortion clinic that wasn’t even open at the time and silently praying. That’s it. No signs, no bullhorns, none of that. Just praying.

Now, Isabel Vaughan-Spruce, who has been active in the pro-life movement for several years, is the anthesis of the wild-eyed pro-lifer many pro-abortionists attempt to present. She is soft-spoken, not self-aggrandizing, and non-confrontational, working only with groups who walk the talk by providing active support for women seeking an abortion alternative.

After her acquittal, Isabel said, “I’m glad I’ve been vindicated of any wrongdoing. But I should never have been arrested for my thoughts and treated like a criminal simply for silently praying on a public street.

“When it comes to censorship zones, peaceful prayer and attempts to offer help to women in crisis pregnancies are now being described as either “criminal” or “anti-social.” But what is profoundly anti-social are the steps now being taken to censor freedom of speech, freedom to offer help, freedom to pray, and even freedom to think. We must stand firm against this and ensure that these most fundamental freedoms are protected and that all our laws reflect this.”

All I can add is God bless her, and may we follow her lead.

In an increasingly fragmenting world, the need to cling ever tighter to Christ has never been more apparent. We need to find our comfort and strength in Him, our peace in Him, and our path in following Him. Jesus is our Lord, not just our Savior. Yet He is a loving Lord, one always ready to embrace us with His nail-scarred hands. It’s good to know that even as things are blowing apart, He remains steadfast.
