Citing political division and a lack of desire for compromise in politics, Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema announced Tuesday that she will not seek re-election.

I believe in my approach, but it's not what America wants right now. I love Arizona, and I am so proud of what we delivered. Because I choose civility, understanding, listening, and working together to get stuff done, I will leave the Senate at the end of this year.

Sinema cited the infrastructure bill and the CHIPS Act as two of her wins in a two-minute announcement video.

Elected as a Democrat, Sinema announced in December 2022 that she was leaving the party. In the 2024 race she faced both Democrat Ruben Gallego and Republican Kari Lake, giving her a narrow path to victory.
