Bill Maher is completely insufferable about 98 percent of the time, and during the remaining time, he’s moderately insufferable while making a great point. The “New Rule” segment during the November 13 episode of “Real Time” is a perfect example of that two percent. Discussing the unmitigated disaster that the 2020 election was for Democrats, with the possible exception of the POTUS race, Maher ripped Dems a new one, calling them “nuts” and wondering how they could possibly be so logically inconsistent as to “think silence is violence and looting is not.”
This is a must-watch, but be warned that he’s still insufferable in parts and the language is NSFW.
Maher began the segment by telling Democrats they’ve really got to do some self-reflection, and quick, before they lose two more Senate seats in Georgia:
Democrats must figure out why so many voters still say to them, you’re good enough, you’re smart enough, but doggone it, we don’t like you.
As Nick Arama reported, moderate House Democrats chewed out Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-BoxedWine) in a post-election conference call, blaming Pelosi for the loss of at least 10 seats, saying it happened because Pelosi allowed all Dems to be lumped in with the Squad’s radical socialist agenda. Whether that’s true or not (I believe it is, and thank goodness!) Democrat leadership’s gotta wonder what happened. Maher says:
Democrats were supposed to flip the Senate, and didn’t. Supposed to flip state legislatures. Not a one. And they lost seats in the House. In a year that was so much about making people about racism, their share of minority votes went down.
The message to Democrats from so much of the country seems to be, “We don’t like Trump, but we still can’t bring ourselves to vote for you.”
If Cracker Jack was made of popcorn and dog sh*t, and half the people threw out the popcorn, popcorn should want to know why.
Liberals can either write off half the country as irredeemable, or they can ask, “What is is about a “D” next to a candidate’s name that makes it so toxic?”
The fact that Trump received an unprecedented share of the minority vote, despite every mainstream media outlet and every Democrat calling him racist every day for more than four years, should cause Democrats to perform a bit of introspection. Do that many people hate themselves that much, to vote for a man who hates them (the current reason Democrats offer for the phenomenon)? A few Democrats have suggestions for how their party can “connect to” Latinos. Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) said:
First, start by not using the term Latinx, which the vast majority of latinos have never heard of, and when they do, they don’t like it. Who likes it? Pandering white politicians, who mistake Twitter for real people, and don’t get it that Latinx is like Fetch. You can try to make it happen, but it’s never gonna.
Our Editor-at-Large Kira Davis would add, to connect with black voters don’t refer to them as “people of color.”
Maher agreed with Rep. Conor Lamb (D-PA), who warned leadership that Democrats need to “dial back the rhetoric” and root their policies in common sense:
“There, in my opinion, is the crux of the problem. Democrats too often don’t come off as having common sense to a huge swath of Americans.
“Politics in this country is binary. You have to wear everything anyone on your side does…Democrats are the party of every hypersensitive, social justice warrior, woke bullsh*t story in the news. They’re the party that disappears people or tries to make them apologize for ridiculous things.”
He’s exactly right. We’re sick of hearing these ridiculous apologies and even more sick of them being demanded. Maher listed numerous examples of this ridiculousness, including actress Anne Hathaway’s recent “apology” for playing a witch with only three, claw-like fingers, and “that’s offensive to people with limb differences.” Seriously. In addition to the fact that witches don’t exist, and that Hathaway’s playing a fictional character, why are we saying someone who’s missing a finger or two has a “limb difference”? No. If they were born that way, they were born without something that’s supposed to be there. There was a defect that caused them to be born without those fingers; it’s not a difference like hair color or eye color or the amount of body hair one has.
Thinking the way these Democrats do has to be exhausting for them; it sure as hell is for us. It’s no longer acceptable to state basic biological facts or have the opinion that a three-year-old shouldn’t be making permanent life choices. It’s a looney-tune way of looking at the world. Maher cited what happened to Mario Lopez as an example:
NBC held an emergency meeting to determine if Mario Lopez should be fired from his job at Access Hollywood. I thought, holy sh*t, did he sexually assault somebody? No. He went on a podcast and when the host brought up the trend of liberal parents letting toddlers pick their gender identity, he said, My God, if you’re three years old and you’re saying you think you’re a boy or a girl…I just think it’s dangerous as a parent to make that determination.”
Cue the groveling apology, followed by America saying, yeah, I think Mario’s right. Maybe kids shouldn’t make big life decisions while you still need to make choo choo noises to get the food in their mouth.”
Exactly. And normal, common-sense Americans spoke again just last week by fighting back when the woke mob tried to cancel Target for carrying a book critical of transgenderism. Maher could go on all day, he said, citing these “stories big and small…that add up to a constant drip, drip, drip of, ‘These people are nuts,'” adding, “That’s what people vote on, not policy.”
The money shot, though, came at the end of the monologue:
Democrats kept saying in the campaign, ‘You can’t possibly think Trump is preferable to what we’re selling,’ and many voters keep saying, ‘Yes. We. Can. In fact, our primary purpose for voting for him is to create a bulwark against you. Because your side thinks silence is violence and looting is not.’ Because you’re the party of chasing speakers off college campuses and making everyone walk on eggshells and replacing ‘Let’s not see color’ with ‘Let’s see it always and everywhere,’ formerly the position of the Ku Klux Klan. It would be so easy to win elections if we would just drop this sh*t.
It’s brutal because it’s true.
But most Democrats, whether elected officials or the woke celebrity crowd, won’t ask those questions, because they’re not capable of asking them. They have so internalized their positions that it never occurs to them that others could find them laughable. They’ve demonstrated over and over again that they lack the ability to predict the consequences of their policies and positions, let alone analyze whether they’re logically consistent or if they damage the movement overall. When you’re in a brainwashed cult, you lose that ability.
