Sounds Right: Meet Houman Salem, Immigrant Entrepreneur Candidate For CA State Senate

On our latest episode of Sounds Right With Jen and Scott, we talk to California State Senate candidate (and “in real life” friend of Jen) Houman Salem. Houman is an entrepreneur who – get this – owns a fashion design and garment manufacturing company in the San Fernando Valley of California. His business has been severely impacted by the state’s new anti-contracting law, AB5, and he shares the reasons why in this podcast.

Houman was born in Iran shortly before the Islamic Revolution. His parents left the country when he was a toddler and settled in the Los Angeles suburbs, where Houman grew up as an all-American kid. After graduating from a state school, Houman worked in the music industry and then founded what’s become one of America’s most respected fashion design houses.

Lastly, we talk about why Californians should vote for Prop 22, even if they’d rather have AB5 fully repealed.
