Coronavirus Coverage Leads Fox News Channel to Primetime Ratings Peak

Fox News

Fox News Channel, the only cable news network to carry the full White House Coronavirus Task Force Briefings, achieved its highest primetime ratings in network history in April. The ratings are sure to surprise pundits at CNN and MSNBC, who were so certain that nobody wanted to (or needed to) hear all of that “propaganda.”

In the 5 PM to 8 PM Eastern time frame, during which the briefings share air time with The Five, Special Report With Bret Baier, and The Story with Martha MacCallum, the network’s ratings dwarfed those of CNN and MSNBC combined. Special Report ranked as the number one program in all of cable news among total viewers and even garnered more viewers than popular broadcast TV shows such as ABC’s Good Morning America, CBS’s Face The Nation, NBC’s Today Show and Ellen’s Game of Games, and ABC’s Shark Tank.

FNC’s ratings success continued into the late night timeframe, with The Greg Gutfeld Show topping all broadcast (womp-womp, Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, and Jimmy Kimmel) and cable comedy (sorry Trevor Noah, apparently a show with the initials TDS doesn’t go over well) programs with 2.9 million total viewers.

Gutfeld-led The Five beat out MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Show and had more viewers in than the CNN and MSNBC shows in the same time slot had combined. Someone should alert Patton Oswalt, who’s apparently one of the only people in the country not watching Greg Gutfeld.
