A man threw an explosive device, likely a hand grenade, into the US Embassy compound in Montenegro at approximately midnight local time Wednesday.

After throwing the device, the man killed himself.

The State Department confirmed the attack, and stated that Embassy officials are working with local law enforcement to identify all assailants.

.@USEmbassyMNE confirms there was a small explosion near the U.S. Embassy compound at approximately midnight local time on February 22. The Embassy is currently conducting an internal review to confirm the safety of all staff.
