Los Angeles DA's Office Investigating Two Sexual Assault Cases Against Weinstein

Just a few days into the year, Harvey Weinstein’s 2018 isn’t looking much better than his 2017.

Sure, his professional downfall was of epic proportions, but the only thing he loses there is money – and respect, at least for a little while. Losing his freedom would be a much tougher pill to swallow, because if he is jailed in state prison his experience will be nothing like Martha Stewart’s stint in federal prison.

We already knew that multiple law enforcement agencies were investigating charges against him, but it was revealed Tuesday that the Beverly Hills Police Department has referred two cases to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office. Greg Risling, spokesperson for the DA’s office, told the New York Daily News:

“Two cases have been presented to our office by the Beverly Hills Police Department regarding Harvey Weinstein and both are under review right now. They were presented last month, on Dec. 18.”

A woman identified as “Jane Doe” filed a lawsuit claiming that Weinstein forced her to watch him masturbate in 2015 then raped her in 2016 at the Montage hotel in Beverly Hills. Famed attorney Gloria Allred, who represents the woman, wouldn’t confirm that one of the cases involved her client, but said:

“I think that it is a positive sign that the LA County District Attorney is reviewing the investigative report of the Beverly Hills Police Department. While a referral to the District Attorney from the police department is important, it is the DA who decides if a case will be filed, not the police department.

“We will have to wait and see if the DA believes that she has sufficient evidence to prove a case against Mr. Weinstein beyond a reasonable doubt.”

The Hollywood Reporter noted that Weinstein has denied all allegations of nonconsensual sex. Now, living in Los Angeles I’ve seen plenty of instances where beautiful women are paired with, well, not so beautiful men who are extremely wealthy, and we all know exactly why. Of course, Harvey had the power to make or break a career, but with over 100 women accusing him of some degree of assault, and with numerous insiders admitting that Weinstein’s proclivities were an “open secret,” and with Weinstein’s initial statement acknowledging some degree of bad behavior, well… yeah. Draw your own conclusion.

Weinstein is also under investigation in New York City and London. None of the agencies have given any timeline about when a decision about filing charges would be made.
