With Scott Wiener in the Lead, Nancy Pelosi's Long Held Seat Will See a Change, but Not for the Good

Democrat Rep. and former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (CA-11) has held her congressional seat in California for 39 years. Once Pelosi announced in November 2025 that she planned to retire from the House of Representatives, several people scrambled to run for the District 11 seat. As the votes in California are still being counted, three Democrats are vying for the Top 2 spots that will move to the November general election: the Pelosi-endorsed San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan, State Sen. Scott Wiener, and former chief of staff for Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14), Saikat Chakrabarti.

David Ganezer is the lone Republican candidate in the race, but the odds of him moving into the Top 2 in deep blue San Francisco are rather slim.

As of this writing, about 40 percent of the vote had been counted. Decision Desk HQ had Wiener in the lead with 43 percent of the vote to Chan's 28 percent. To win the race outright, a candidate must reach 50 percent plus 1 vote; otherwise, the Top 2 vote-getters advance to face off in November. So, it is looking increasingly like Wiener and Chan will be the two to continue to vie for the seat.

Wiener is an LGBTQ activist who rose through the ranks of the State Senate, where he sponsored and helped pass several anti-child protection and pedophile-adjacent bills, such as one that lowered the age of consent. As the Pelosi-anointed choice, Chan has the heavy backing of California's labor unions as well as the weighty support of the Chinese-American community in the district.

At 11:31 ET, Decision Desk HQ projected that Scott Wiener made the Top 2 for November. With votes still being counted, there is a possibility he wins the District 11 seat outright.

Chan would be a continuation of Pelosi's values. Wiener would also be that, and even worse.

Editor’s Note: The 2026 Midterms will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
