Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (LA-04) has sent the official invitation to President Donald Trump to address a Joint Session of Congress in February. Unlike Trump's address in the first few weeks of 2025 after he was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, this invitation marks the first State of the Union address of Trump's second term.
It is my distinct honor and great privilege to invite President Trump to deliver the State of the Union on February 24, 2026.

Speaker Johnson wrote:
Dear Mr. President:
As our nation marks the Semiquincentennial Anniversary of American Independence, the United States stands stronger, freer, and more prosperous under your leadership and bold action. Together in 2025, your administration and the 119th Congress delivered one of the most consequential agendas in history, and Americans across this great country will experience the tangible results of commonsense governance.
We look forward to advancing the important work ahead of us in 2026, serving the American people, defending liberty, and preserving this grand experiment in self-governance. To that end, it is my distinct honor and great privilege to invite you to address a Joint Session of Congress on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, in the Chamber of the U.S. House of Representatives.
We will be celebrating America's 250th birthday, and this momentous event is already pregnant with meaning. But suffice to say, it's a great time for Trump to take a victory lap, and there are lots of wins he has to run with.
In the first week of 2026, Trump greenlit the surprise military strike that saw the downfall and arrest of deposed Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro. Then Trump took control of their oil industry, freezing out rapacious enemies Russia and China by seizing sanctioned oil tankers and forcing Venezuelan leaders to sell only to the U.S.
Our border is secure and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and U.S. Border Patrol are doing the difficult work of getting rid of the worst of the worst of illegal criminals. Despite blue cities and their anti-ICE drama and violence, the work is still getting done and Border Czar Tom Homan, who should be canonized for sainthood, promises that he won't stop. Some of the illegals who are still "in the shadows" are taking DHS Secretary Kristi Noem up on her offer to self-deport and doing just that.
The National Guard surges in the nation's capital of Washington D.C., Memphis, and New Orleans have been welcomed with open arms by citizens, and are doing yeoman's work to clean up crime and bring law and order to places long plagued by violence. The One Big Beautiful Law is being implemented by Congress, and the American people are starting to feel the positive results: from No Tax on Tips, to transformations in rural health care. And tariffs? Well, all the hue and cry about how it would destroy the economy has turned out to be bluster and wind, with evidence of greater gain than harm. Americans may soon begin to see the benefit of this too.

So, if the goings-on in Venezuela, the exposure and squashing of Minnesota Somali fraud, and the economic gains, radical immigration reform, and safety surges on the domestic front continues, then the 2026 State of the Union promises to be lit.
In any event, it definitely promises to be Must-See TV. Mark your calendars.
