As our Managing Editor Jennifer Van Laar reported, California voters approved Prop 50, Gavin Newsom's gerrymandering scam that essentially tossed out the maps drawn by the constitutionally-mandated independent redistricting commission in favor of maps drawn by the California Democrat Party. The goal: to get rid of five Republican-held seats in the House of Representatives.
There was only one issue on the ballot in California this Election Day: Gov. Gavin Newsom's Election Rigging Act, Proposition 50, which throws out the maps the state constitution-mandated independent redistricting commission spent a year drawing and replaces them with maps paid for by the DCCC and drawn by an extreme partisan with the purpose of disenfranchising Republicans.
Although polls closed only 30 minutes ago, and although people are still voting at some vote centers, the race has already been called - Newsom now can brag that California has voter-approved gerrymandering that could decimate the state's Republican congressional delegation.

Newsom Comes for White House over Integrity of CA Elections, Gets Hit with Embarrassing Truth
Newsom is preening and pontificating, thinking this win has certified him as a kingmaker. Really, the only thing he has made certain is that termed-out Assembly and State Senate Democrats can now run against the incumbents who hold these red district seats. While the maps may have changed, there will still be a campaign to mount and voters to engage. Three representatives whose seats have been targeted are making it known that they do not plan to go anywhere.
In 2024, Rep. Vince Fong won former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's Bakersfield seat when McCarthy chose to resign. Fong took to X to issue a statement.

"As a result of Gavin Newsom's campaign of misinformation and lies, millions of Californians will be left without representation in Congress. If Prop 50 has shown us anything, it is that Gavin Newsom is so desperate to be president that he is willing to steamroll the state constitution and rural communities in pursuit of his personal ambition.
Our efforts to bring common sense to California will not stop—I will continue standing up to Gavin Newsom and be a fierce advocate for the millions of forgotten Californians who have had their voices silenced. The fight for California is just beginning—and I am all in."
Rep. Darrell Issa, whose once-reliably conservative area of San Diego has been carved up, issued this statement to Fox News.

NEW: CA Republican Congressman @DarrellIssa is one of the five GOP reps Democrats are trying to push out of office by redrawing their districts to be more Dem friendly. Issa provides this statement to @FoxNews in response to Prop 50 being projected to pass:
“California is my home. And it’s worth fighting for.
I know how many of my friends and constituents feel about tonight’s election results and the unprecedented purely partisan campaign that pitted neighbor against neighbor and divided the state as never before. It was difficult to watch as Gavin Newsom and Sacramento’s special interests set about shredding the state constitution, disenfranchising millions of Californians solely because of how they vote, and delivering what they know is an undeserved advantage to Democrats.
But here’s something Newsom and his cronies don’t know: It won’t work. The worst gerrymander in history has a fatal flaw. Voters get to pick their representatives. Not the other way around.
I’m not going anywhere. I’ll continue to represent the people of California — regardless of their party or where they live. I’m not quitting on California. And neither should anyone else.”
Newsom's biggest nemesis, Rep. Kevin Kiley, also had a word on Newsom's supposed win. Kiley affirmed his plans to remain in the fight and to continue to make a difference as his district's duly elected representative.
Kiley posted a video to X and said in part:
I will answer this call of the voters and work across party lines to find a national solution to the age-old plague of gerrymandering. And in particular, to the more recent affliction of mid-decade gerrymandering. In fact, I've already introduced legislation to that effect and it has strong bipartisan support.
Unlike many in the Republican Party, Kiley knows how to play the long game and strive for solutions that will restore the process back to the citizens in the near term and for the future.
The reason I opposed Prop 50, even as I also opposed what's happened in other states, is because I believe fighting fire with fire burns everything down. With California's new gerrymander, the redistricting arms race has no end in sight. North Carolina, Missouri, Indiana for Republicans. Illinois, Maryland, Virginia for Democrats. And to what end? It's a race to the bottom that degrades democracy everywhere. It's both a symptom of our country's political divisions and a troubling new trend that is sure to make that division even worse. Tonight, more than ever, I think excessive partisanship is one of the biggest challenges facing out country.
Like Fong and Issa, Kiley made it plain that he is going nowhere and will be running for another term. Kiley also illustrated that Newsom may do all he wants to rig the stakes, but he does not control the will of the voters to choose who they want to represent them.
When I first ran for Congress three years ago, I pledged to be an independent voice for our district. To fight for all Californians and to work towards overcoming our country's political divisions. I believe that mission is even more important today. That is why I am committed to earning the support of voters for another term in the U.S. House of Representatives next year.
Politicians can change the lines on a map, but they can't tell you how to vote. In a democracy, the power to choose our representatives always rest with you, the voter.
Newsom has his sights on the 2028 elections, but the 2026 midterms will determine whether he has any power or traction. Fong, Issa, and Kiley have drawn their line in the sand and are entering fully into the fray.
Game on.
