Former Biden Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra will forever be remembered as the cabinet member whose boss couldn't pronounce his name correctly.

WATCH:

"Xavier BA-CA-RHEA"!

How embarrassing and a reflection of how unimpressive Becerra is. But for some reason, he keeps trying to impress, flossing credentials he barely earned and touting a record that doesn't exist. Now, Becerra is going for the brass ring of governance. On Wednesday, he announced he is joining the long line of Democrats who want to become the next Governor of California.

As I said a year ago when Becerra was teasing a run for governor, "The man who probably could not run a mile thinks he can run a state."

Good luck with that.

Former U.S. Health Secretary and California Attorney General Xavier Becerra is the latest Democrat to enter the race to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2026, joining seven other  Democrats and one Republican among the major candidates — a flush field that could be upended should former Vice President Kamala Harris decide to run.

Despite the possibility of former VP Kamala Harris jumping into the California gubernatorial race, Becerra has wedged himself into this already crowded clown car by posting this tired introductory video.

Hi, I'm Xavier Becerra, and you may have heard, but I'm running to be governor of our great state of California. And that's because I watched my parents, a construction worker and a clerical worker, achieve the California Dream. Can we do that today with this affordability crisis? Very tough. But we've taken on these tough fights. California has succeeded in those tough fights and become the economic engine of this country. We can do that, but you need a leader who can be tough.

And I've been in those tough fights. Whether it's been as a member of Congress when we helped draft and pass the Affordable Care Act. When I was attorney general for our great state of California and I took on the Trump administration the first time—sued 'em over 100 times—and won. Or whether as Secretary of Health and Human Services, I took on the pharmaceutical industry and we negotiated lower prescription drug prices for seniors under Medicare.

Honestly, look—speeches and fancy announcements, those can wait. Right now, what can't wait, is that California Dream. Real change comes with our participation. I'm looking forward to seeing you, because together we will rebuild the California Dream.

In what universe? Governor Gavin Newsom is begging for federal dollars because he bankrupted MediCal and was devoid of common sense leadership on the response to the Southern California fires in Pacific Palisades and Altadena. Now Newsom is losing the state's educational funding because he refuses to follow the federal ban on biological males competing against girls in sports. That California Dream Becerra claims his parents enjoyed will not be easily resurrected. And certainly won't be done with Becerra at the helm.

As we say on X, "I'm here for the ratio." The response to Becerra's announcement has ranged from, "You're kidding, right?" to, "Hard pass," to "H-E- Double Hockey sticks, NO."

RedState editor and California resident Bob Hoge said it well.

Writer and Californian Karen Anderson, who runs Freelancers Against AB5, has seen firsthand how the AB5 law, which Becerra helped to enforce, has decimated independent contracting and small business in the state.

Since the Wednesday announcement, Becerra's video has received 331,000 views on X, and over a thousand comments, the majority negative. You would think Becerra would read the room.

But he won't. That tone-deaf, echo chamber, progressive bubble agenda has been the hallmark of his checkered career in politics.

As HHS Secretary, his agency threatened to strip funding from a Catholic hospital system taking care of the people in Oklahoma over an eternal flame.

I kid not.

Joe Biden’s Department of Health and Human Services is preparing to strip a Catholic hospital system in Tusla, OK, of its ability to serve Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP patients if it retains its Catholic identity. The Saint Francis Healthcare System is the twelfth largest in the nation and runs five hospitals in Eastern Oklahoma. Those hospitals serve about 400,000 patients each year. Over the last five years, the hospital system has given away more than $650 million in free medical care to the indigent. It employs more than 11,000 people.

Unfortunately, the hospital system is Catholic in more than name. Because of the requirements of its faith, it maintains chapels in each of those hospitals that are available to patients and staff 24 hours a day. One of the features of a Catholic chapel is the presence of an eternal flame.

Becerra also furthered the lie of "pandemic of the unvaccinated."  In October 2021, Becerra went on a rant during MSNBC's “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” calling Americans who refused to get the COVID vaccine "selfish."

If you want to do stuff in public, if you want to do stuff with others, you got to be part of the team, and part of the team means you have to be safe and let others be safe around you. You can’t just be selfish.

The fact that Trump's HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya are cleaning house says all you need to know about the veracity of the Biden team's flawed COVID science and what a puppet Becerra was.

Probably his most egregious action as HHS Secretary was losing track of 320,000 unaccompanied minors under his watch and cavalierly declaring last November to the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement that he was simply following policies and procedures, which is apparently about all Becerra is good at: following orders.

Before Biden tapped him for his administration, he was California's Attorney General. Becerra had been appointed by then-Governor Jerry Brown in 2016 after Brown also appointed then-AG Kamala Harris to fill Barbara Boxer's Senate seat. This is how it works in California: Appoint someone outside of the electoral process and let them embed like a tick. Becerra had previously served 12 terms in the U.S. House of Representatives and was rumored to be Hillary Clinton's VP pick. She went with the ignominious Tim Kaine, and we know how well that went. Brown summoned Becerra back to California because he needed a thug to sue the Trump administration non-stop and talk tough nonsense. Being the willing puppet that he is, Becerra did just that—122 times...because reasons.

Three years is not enough time for Becerra to distance himself from his terrible record as California Attorney General either. He worked overtime in 2020 to suppress the already limited GOP vote, filed an anti-trust lawsuit against a hospital concern that was not their preferred provider in the state (that would be Kaiser Permanente), which compromised access to healthcare for the poor and underserved, and racked up $21 million worth of state debt over lawsuits against the Trump administration, because, Orange Man Bad. All that debt was passed on to the California taxpayer; now you know why the state is $73 billion and counting in the hole.

From a questionable congressional record, to being a convenient attack dog as California's AG, to an incredibly sketchy record as Biden's HHS secretary, Becerra now thinks he can run the state of California. Whoever his puppet masters are, they'll definitely help him run it — further into the ground.
