All miles are not created equal. Miles in California, with its hills, valleys, and dips, are no joke. When I didn't have a car, I would walk and take the bus and it took forever, sometimes because I was literally hiking a mountain. After Roseville resident Isaac Taylor's car was totaled, he took it to another level and bought a bike in order to traverse the sixteen-mile round trip to his job as a security guard.
This offered him more control than a bus, but still a workout, especially in the heat of Summer. Taylor worked as a security guard on the graveyard shift. When he got off work, he immediately headed home in order to walk his two youngest children to school. Talk about dedication and commitment.
Taylor did this for six months when a non-profit group nominated him for a donation of a car.
Time for all the feels.
A California father of six was gifted a free car after traveling to and from work on a bike for six months.
Isaac Taylor, of Roseville, began biking to work after his family’s car was totaled in an accident, according to CBS affiliate KOVR and NBC affiliate KCRA.The security guard has five daughters and one son, ages 3 to 19, and takes care of his youngest two daughters on a full-time basis, ABC affiliate KXTV reported.
Good thing that Family Promise continued to follow up with Taylor. When they discovered he was without a car, they nominated him to be a part of a giveaway. The program is sponsored by Caliber Collision Roseville, Travelers Insurance, and Family Promise in collaboration with the NABC Recycled Rides Program. Travelers donate the vehicles and Caliber Collision technicians volunteered their time to do the restoration.
Sure enough, Taylor was selected to receive a recently restored 2019 Hyundai Elantra — paid in full. He was given the car on Thursday.
"I cried like a baby," said Taylor, per KOVR. "Tears of joy. Tears of feeling the pain of riding the bike back and forth. It all set in — what I went through to get to where I'm at now."
Taylor said that even in the thick of the struggle, he maintained a positive attitude.
"I've been through a lot, so struggle is just part of getting to the next big thing," said Taylor.
.Now, Taylor will be able to get to that next big thing with a set of wheels, tunes, and air conditioning!
